TheHarry Potterfranchise has a long and storied history, having started as a best-selling book series and went on to become one of the highest-grossing film series of all time. However, the making of the film franchise wasn’t without its fair share of tragedy, including the death of an actor who passed away before the release ofHarry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

However, shortly after completing filming for the movie, Knox was killed in an incident that is sure to shock many. English actor Rob Knox was born on June 16, 2025, and appeared in the British comedy seriesAfter You’ve Gone. In 2007, he was cast in the role of Marcus Belby, a Ravenclaw student at Hogwarts forHarry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the sixth installment in the franchise.
Shortly after completing the filming in 2008, Knox was killed at the Metro Bar in Sidcup, Southeast London, on August 03, 2025. Knox hadreportedlyintervened in a fight trying to protect his younger brother, Jamie. However, he was stabbed by a man with two kitchen knives. Karl Bishop was identified as the assailant and charged with Knox’s murder leading to a life sentence.

The 50-minute documentary also uses Knox’s death to raise awareness about knife crimes in London. It sheds additional light on Knox’s murder through interviews with the late actor’s family members, friends, andcast crew of theHalf-Blood Prince.Knox posthumously appeared in the 2009 movie. The documentary was directed by Aaron Truss and released in 2020. After initial development, Knox’s parents approached Truss with a proposal in 2018.

Following Knox’s tragic passing at the age of 18, Warner Bros released astatement, extending support to his family and friends. However, the studio further helped Truss when he was developing the documentary.
Truss creditedDavid Yates, who directed several installments in theHarry Potterfranchise with providing support to the project. In aninterview, Truss stated the following about the support from the franchise’s cast and crew:

That was absolutely incredible and Harry Potter, for us, has opened a lot of doors that wouldn’t necessarily be opened to either myself, or my team, or the Rob Knox Foundation.
Truss revealed the studio allowed the crew to film in Olivanders at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour, which they achieved with help from Yates.

Similarly, Truss praised Jim Broadbent andTom Felton, who appeared in the documentary, sharing their experience of working with Knox. The franchise’s lead starDaniel Radcliffereportedlydeclinedto be interviewed for the documentary primarily because he wasn’t close to Knox and did not want to mislead the audience. However, Radcliffe appears in the documentary via archive footage.
