Things have been rough at Build A Rocket Boy even since before MindsEye’s launch, and they’re only getting worse.

The developer recentlysent out redundancy emails to staff, signaling to begin a consultation period before impending mass layoffs as required by UK law, back in late June.

Justyesterday, however, it became clear that the redundancies were even more widespread than previously thought, with some LinkedIn posts from employees indicating that the entire 300-person development team may be affected.

For MindsEye director and Build A Rocket Boy Leslie Benzies, however, the plan seems to be full steam ahead, andhe apparently plans for the developer to relaunch the game, even as all or most of its staff are seemingly at risk of being laid off.

Trying For A Redemption Arc

The news comes from two anonymous Build A Rocket Boy insiders speaking toIGN, who said Benzies finally addressed the staff in a short video call.

Apparently,he took the opportunity to blame the failure of MindsEye on “internal and external saboteurs” and insist that Build A Rocket Boy will somehow rebound from its difficultiesand relaunch the game.

Benzies isn’t the only top executive at the company to havespouted conspiracy theoriesabout the game’s negative reception, and the company has also been accused ofusing bots to post positive reviews of the game.

MindsEye Controversies Deepen As Execs Bail A Week Before Launch

Things have only been getting worse for MindsEye and its developer Build a Rocket Boy.

According to IGN’s sources, there is a desire within the developer for MindsEye to recover and eventually become successful for the studio, but if the entire team is facing potential layoffs, it’s anyone’s guess if the game will be able to meet its post-launch plans on time, or at all.

MindsEye just gotits third hotfix update since launch, after Alex Hernandez, voice actor for the game’s protagonist Jacob Diaz, had some pointed wordsfor Build A Rocket Boy releasing MindsEye in the state it was in.

If Benzies gets what he wants and the company somehow manages to recover and relaunch MindsEye, it could be a redemption arc on the level ofNo Man’s Sky or Final Fantasy XIV. I don’t think I’m the only one who finds that overwhelmingly unlikely, though, especially considering the jobs of most of Build A Rocket Boy’s staff are in serious jeopardy.
