Kohei Horikoshi explored various definitions of heroism inMy Hero Academiathrough different heroes. While some were dedicated to the greater good, others were more intent on proving themselves to the world. Their varying motivations converged during the final war, as they managed to save the world. However, another aspect of the series that united the heroes was their shared admiration for All Might.

All Might in My Hero Academia

Everyone in theMy Hero Academiaworld either respected or feared his strength. While Deku’s journey was the central focus of the series, All Might’s character was a huge part of it. The story wouldn’t have been nearly as entertaining or engaging without him. Even the veteran character designer Yoshihiko Umakoshi agrees with the fact that All Might is the heart and soul ofMy Hero Academia, as he shared during an interview.

Veteran character designer Yoshihiko Umakoshi highlights All Might’s importance inMy Hero Academia

All Might was initially introduced as the Symbol of Peace, with an intimidating appearance that was enough to make the most dangerous villains pray for their lives. The presence of All Might inMy Hero Academiawas a reassurance that, no matter what, he would always save the day. This perception was challenged when his true condition was revealed.

However, All Might was cool regardless of his appearance, as it was a core aspect of the series, as explained by veteran character designer Yoshihiko Umakoshiduring an interview with Asia Pacific Arts.

All Might. He’s really fun to draw. There’s that gap between his macho version and his skinny version. And he’s the pillar of the story. In that sense, I really like him. If All Might is uncool, there is no My Hero Academia.

Umakoshi has been a part of many notable anime titles includingMarmalade Boy, Dragon Ball Super: Broly, andMy Hero Academia. He perfectly pointed outhow All Might was a pillar in the story, one that elevated the entire structure of the narrative.

There wasn’t much of a difference between how the characters perceived All Might and how fans perceived him. And his weakened frame didn’t affect that perception in the slightest.

Here’s what All Might represents as the Symbol of Peace

All Might’s journey inMy Hero Academiawas greatly inspiring. He single-handedly let millions of people exist in peace while shouldering their concerns and casting away their fears. However, all these efforts heavily impacted his own well-being and rendered him useless in battle after a point. He pushed through for as long as he could and then stepped into a different role.

He became a mentor for the young generation, overseeing their plans and assisting them in every way possible. As soon as he stepped away from the battlefield, his role and impact started to blur a little. But heroes like Star and Stripes, Deku, and Dynamight proved how All Might influenced numerous heroes. His towering statue was a testament to his legacy, which can never be tainted, replicated or altered.
