Catherina is a paripus and, until our group arrives, the best bounty hunter in all of Euchronia. You can see this by checking the recruitment board at any recruitment center.

When the electoral race begins, Catherina becomes a candidate with the sole promise of changing the fate of the paripus and giving them a dignified life.

Metaphor: ReFantazio Catherina Rank One

Initially, her policies of sharing the wealth of the rich are sincere and well-intentioned, but her supporters soon misinterpret them and begin mistreating all wealthy families.

Through her many battles with the protagonist, she comes to realize that her indignation has begotten extremism, and she must find a way to help the paripus without harming the other races.

Catherina’s Bond Ranks Explained

Catherina is one of the most elusive Followers inMetaphor: ReFantazio, but even so, she isn’t missable. After starting a new Bond with her, many of her interactions will occur as we cross paths with her Gauntlet Runner during our travels.

However, one of these encounters is off the main story path, and you’ll need to visit an optional dungeon at the right time to find her.

If you miss her on the road later in the game, you’ll have to buy the item “Catherina’s Whereabouts” from an informant in Altabury Heights to continue progressing.

Additionally, you’ll need five points in Tolerance to start the rank six interaction, which unlocks one of the most powerful skills for tackling dungeons.

Catherina’s Brawler Archetype is also required to tackle one of the ranks at theVarmareno Coliseum, so we advise leveling it up with at least one party member.

Checks/Requirements

Must complete “A Friend in Need” request

We find Catherina during our second foray into the Mausoleum before entering theRegalith Grand Cathedral. She’s searching for a friend.

When we offer our help, she’s suspicious, not believing that anyone would willingly help a paripus, but she accepts and gives us the “A Friend in Need” request.

The request is straightforward and mandatory to progress through the Cathedral. Once you complete it, Catherina will appear.

She will thank us, commenting that it’s strange for someone to help a paripus without asking for something in return, but she trusts the protagonist. Thus, a new Bond begins, and the Brawler Archetype is unlocked.

Gauntlet Runner

Brawler Enlightenment - Reduces the MAG cost of studying the Brawler Lineage

This has no special requirements because it’s one of the two times the Gauntlet Runner will automatically encounter Catherina.

On the way to the Giant Sandworm’s Nest, Neuras will inform us that there’s a Gauntlet Runner in our path. It’s Catherina’s, and she doesn’t waste time boarding our deck.

She reveals that she’s also in the race for the throne, and since we’re her competitors, she decides to settle this with a straightforward fight.

Metaphor: ReFantazio All Elite Archetypes, Ranked

Each Archetype has its own role to play in Metaphor: ReFantazio and can be levelled to Elite tiers which unlock new skills and abilities.

The battle isn’t too difficult, but to make things easier, know that Catherina is weak against fire attacks, and most of her attacks are Strike-type.

Upon defeating her, Catherina is a good sport and graciously accepts her loss. She reveals that she entered the race to end the cycle of misery for the paripus by putting a bounty on the head of every greedy, wealthy scoundrel.

She says the idea came from a clemar, an ally of the paripus, and she agreed to become the tribe’s representative.

Rank Three

Brawler Archetype: Adept - The party can now study the Pugilist Archetype

Bounty Bonus - Fattens the purse of bounty rewards at each city’s Recruitment Centre

Another automatic encounter during the Gauntlet Runner’s journey from Martira towards Brilehaven.

Once again, Catherina jumps aboard our Gauntlet Runner, trying to force us out of the race with a good pounding.

You’ll win, hopefully, and this will trigger another Bond interaction with Catherina. As she laments her defeat once more, a paripus caravan catches her attention.

Eudoricas and other paripus are migrating from Martira in search of work, even if it costs them their lives on the road.

Metaphor: ReFantazio Director Katsura Hashino has confirmed he is already working on his next project for Atlus.

Catherina hands over the reward from a recently slain bounty meant for her royal campaign to help them put food on the table.

She knows it’s only a temporary solution, and soon many of these paripus will be either dead or living in misery again.

This strengthens her resolve to win the throne and change the reality of her tribe by squeezing every drop of coin from the rich who have exploited the paripus in their pursuit of wealth.

Scion’s Skill - Increases skill inheritance slots for the Brawler Lineage to two

On the way to the Forsaken Tower

This is Catherina’s most elusive rank, though not entirely missable. This time, her Gauntlet Runner will be on the path to theForsaken Tower, an optional dungeon.

Crossing paths with her will trigger yet another fight with Catherina. Upon victory, she’ll be astonished by your almighty power but will concede defeat.

Catherina’s supporters reappear, reporting that they’ve just managed to rob some rich folks along the way.

Manihot, the clemar who encouraged Catherina to enter the race, shows up and says they don’t need to wait for her to become queen to bleed the rich dry.

She protests, claiming they were only supposed to target the wicked rich. Manihot and the paripus ignore her words and decide to continue down the same path.

Catherina spirals into doubt, commenting that her encouragement turned her supporters into common thieves, which was never her intention.

After some reflection, she decides to step down from the candidacy and now declares her support for Gael. She just needs to find the courage to tell the other paripus about her decision.

Buy “Catherina’s Whereabouts” information if you missed her on the last rank

There are two ways to start Catherina’s Rank Five.

Either way, the hiatus between Catherina’s Rank Four and Five is very long, but don’t worry—you haven’t missed her.

Catherina reveals that she told her supporters about stepping down, and many understood, though some continue committing crimes against the rich and even merchants, like kidnappings and demanding ransom.

Manihot, the clemar, is the one influencing everyone, but she admits that it’s her fault for planting these wrong ideas in the paripus.

The brawler opens up about her past, explaining that after winning an amulet from another paripus, she bought a dagger to learn how to defend herself, which eventually led her to become a bounty hunter.

Still down in the dumps, Gael reads a passage from his novel, which ignites Catherina’s spark. She decides to stop Manihot and asks the protagonist for help.

Scion’s Merit - Increases skill inheritance slots for the Brawler Lineage to three

Streetwise Negotiator - Reduces prices at each city’s general store

Tolerance (5)

To start this Bond rank, you must have the Tolerancevirtue at its maximum level.

Catherina discovers where Manihot is gathering with the paripus and decides to confront him alongside the protagonist.

At the location, Manihot belittles her, but Catherina still speaks her mind. She tells them that if they enter this cycle of theft, they’ll also be stolen from, and nothing will be solved.

Metaphor: ReFantazio: Who Should You Choose At The Bonfire

It’s time to celebrate, but with who?

Manihot tries to counter, but he falls into the trap of his own rhetoric, calling the paripus tools for the rich, claiming they are good for nothing else.

The paripus retort that they aren’t Manihot’s tools either and decide to listen to Catherina, who intends to create a kinder world for everyone to live in.

Her former supporters agree to follow her ideas, but despite her promises, Catherina has no plan. In the meantime, she decides to come up with something.

Rank Seven

Treasure Hunting - Displays the location of treasure chests in unexplored areas

Comrades in Battle - Catherina will support the party in certain dungeons. She is a force to be reckoned with

Catherina laments, not knowing what kind of jobs would be suitable for the paripus when Eudoricas shows up. He tells her he gave up banditry and now works at a furniture shop.

His commitment allowed him to hire new help, and he employed all the paripus traveling in the caravan from Martira.

Eudoricas says the shop owner was saved by Catherina in the past, so he knows the paripus are good folks.

She realizes that while one person alone can’t make a wave, a united tribe can. Catherina understands that connections help people find jobs and plans to do this without relying on the protagonist.

Rank Eight

Brawler Archetype: Elite - The party can now study the Martial Artist Archetype

Scion’s Essence - Increases skill inheritance slots for the Brawler Lineage to four

Catherina decides to gather all her former supporters to announce that she will help them find suitable work instead of handing them money.

Some protest, saying that they lack the necessary skills. Soon after, Catherina and Eudoricas announce they will establish a teaching facility to train the paripus.

Still, a few supporters grumble, claiming Catherina promised them an easy life of wealth. She acknowledges her mistakes and apologizes, encouraging them to pursue their dreams.

Little by little, Catherina’s words create a ripple effect, and the paripus begin to see merit in this future of education and honest work.

Catherina says she can stay optimistic thanks to the protagonist’s promises as the future king. She reaffirms her support and declares that they will be comrades-in-arms forever.

Thus concludes all the Bond ranks with Catherina.
