Legendary actress Meryl Streep has reportedly confirmed to return to the fourth season of the Hulu showOnly Murders in the Building. The actress starred in the show’s third season as Loretta Durkin, who is Martin Short’s love interest. The Primetime Emmy Award-nominated show was renewed for a fourth season after a stellar predecessor.
The show was created by Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, and Martin Short in lead roles as three true-crime podcast enthusiasts in The Arconia apartment who band together to solve murders. Martin created the show along with John Hoffman. Spoilers ahead.

After her stint on the show in season 3, the makers of the show announced recently thatMeryl Streepwould be returning in season 4. Karey Burke, whose studio producedOnly Murders in the Buildingrevealed inThe Hollywood Reporter’spodcast that Streep would be returning for the role. She said,
“Meryl is returning for next season because she had a tremendous time.”
The murder in the fourth season of the show was hinted at in the season 3 finale, where actress Jane Lynch was shown to be killed.

Creator John Hoffman Wanted To Bring Back Meryl Streep For Season 4
The showOnly Murders in the Buildingfeatured many prominent stars as guest actors or in recurring roles. Apart from the lead trio of Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, the series featured the talents of Amy Ryan, Cara Delevigne, Tina Fey, Nathan Lane, and many other stars playing fictionalized versions of themselves.
Meryl Streep featured in the show in the third season and her performances were lauded by critics and audiences alike.Time Magazinepraised her performance in the show and appreciated the makers for using her right. They wrote,
“[Streep’s performance] is capital-A Acting, executed with warmth and control and grandeur. Because of course, it is. Why else would you bother hiring one of the most celebrated actors of our time…Streep has made a handful of splashy forays into television over the past few years, but Only Murders is the first of these shows that really knows how to use her.”

Co-creator and director John Hoffman also mentioned that he would love to have the legendary actress back on the sets of the show. The third season ends with Meryl Streep’s character, Loretta Durkin moving to LA after getting an offer to work. Hoffman said toThe Hollywood Reporter,
“I love them both, Jesse and Meryl, everyone. I mean, for God’s sake, I would bring Paul back if we can. Listen, I would bring everyone back, and that might happen. Victims, killers, they’re all able to play in the landscape within this sort of certain narrative ways we can tell our stories.”
