However, there was a moment inAttack on Titanwhen the bond between the three characters was questioned, and fans assumed that they would not be together anymore. This was when Eren decided to be the villain of the story and take down his “enemies” all on his own. to do this, he had to stay away from Mikasa and Armin.

Bryce Papenbrook, the English voice actor of Eren inAttack on Titan, recently shared his experience while filming this scene and the pain he felt while being that brutal towards Eren’s friends. It was indeed a bold choice that added more pain to the breaking of the friendship between the three most important characters of the series.

The most heartbreaking moment in Eren, Mikasa, and Armin’s friendship

During the ruckus ofAttack on TitanSeason 4, Eren Yeager decides to have a conversation with his friends Armin and Mikasa, but the way Eren decides to meet them is not at all friendly. He even threatened to transform into a Titan if Mikasa or Armin did something fishy. This was the indication that he was there to warn them not to intervene in his plans.

The most hurtful aspect of the conversation was the way Eren treated Mikasa and Armin in order to make them stay away from him. First, hetargets Armin’s feelingsfor Annie by connecting them to Bertolt’s memories and pointing out that he is being manipulated by the enemy. Then he went on to say the meanest things to Mikasa that were completely unexpected.

He explained Ackerman’s curse and talked about how Mikasa’s feelings towards him are nothing but a brain activity. Not only that, he even went to the lengths of claiming that he had hated her since the day they met. This was probably the saddest moment for Mikasa in the history ofAttack on Titan.

I’ll give you one example from my experience. There’s a moment in Season 4 where Eren is talking to Armin and Mikasa around a table, and in that moment I didn’t know why Eren was acting that way. I didn’t know why he was saying terrible things to the people that he loves, and all Mike told me was, “Make these words hurt them.”

Bryce Papenbrookpointed out that when he was told to belittle his friends, he had no context as to why he was doing this. Nevertheless, he felt terrible about it and it made the scene even more saddening.

Mikasa and Armin were the only characters who could have stopped Eren from moving forward with the Rumbling, and thus in a way, his poisonous words were needed for them to not interferewith the mass genocide he was planninginAttack on Titan.
