While Capcom is often the butt of jokes when it comes to milking its franchises with countless re-releases of its games, the publisher still has a trove of gaming IPs that they haven’t really taken advantage of in quite some time.
There’s no explanation why this is the case, but it just is. Is it because Capcom is too busy focusing on Resident Evil, Street Fighter and Monster Hunter? Maybe, but if the publisher really wanted to, they have a long list of IPs they can produce games for.

Capcom Considers All Resident Evils Canon According To Leaker (Even When It Doesn’t Make Sense)
A notable Capcom leaker has confirmed that the company considers all of the Resident Evil games canon, even though it doesn’t make sense.
One such dormant IP may be returning soon, based on what Capcom has shared in a recent Q&A.

Capcom’s Long-Sleeping Franchise Not Forgotten
While I’d love nothing more than to say that the company was pertaining to Dino Crisis, they’re not. The dormant IP they’re referring to is none other than Mega Man (Rockman in Japan), who got regular releases back then, alongside various spinoffs.
In a recent shareholders' general meetingQ&A session, Capcom was asked about its plans for the Mega Man series.

The company answered, “he Mega Man series is one of our most important IPs, and we are continuously considering ways to develop it further. However, we do not have any additional information we can share at this time.”
There’s no confirmation that a new game announcement is on the way, but at the very least, the company still has the franchise in mind.

10 Games To Play If You Love Mega Man
If you love Mega Man and want more games like it, this list can help!
Outside of collections, the last Mega Man game released was Mega Man 11 in 2018 for the PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC. It used a modern 2.5D art style, that retained the franchise’s classic gameplay.

Since then, Capcom has mostly released collections of the series.
Given the success of Capcom’s other franchises, such as Monster Hunter, it’s understandable for the publisher to focus on those for now. Outside of Monster Hunter Wilds, Capcom recently announced the ninth entry in the Resident Evil franchise, titled asResident Evil Requiem. We managed to geta preview of the upcoming horror game at Summer Game Fest, which you’ll want to check out.
No word yet on when a new Mega Man game is due, but once Capcom announces the Blue Bomber’s next adventure, you’ll hear it here on DualShockers.
