How Morale Works

Morale is introduced rather early in the game, around after Chapter 1 when you first set sail with the Goromaru.

Each crew member has a hidden morale meter, whichaffects their stats and how well they perform during naval and deck combat. After recruiting a new member for the Goro Pirates, their morale meter will be at its highest.

There are five levels of morale: awesome, good, normal, bad, and terrible. When a crew member feels good or awesome, they receive a boost to their stats. When they feel bad or terrible, they receive a penalty.

Crew members who feel awesome in particular get a big stat bonus which makes them more effective in naval combat as well as deck combat.

The game will tell you when a crew member is in poor condition, or if you notice the blue aura around their heads.

While the game says that morale levels affect the overall combat effectiveness of each crew member, there does not seem to be any salient stat difference between “Awesome” and “Terrible.”

Combat in general gradually decreases your crew’s morale by a little,so after a few island raids or naval fights, your crew might eventually feel a little down from the stress. Not only that, buttheir morale significantly decreases when you’re defeated or when you fleefrom random encounters in the open world.

Best Ways To Boost Morale

Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to improve crew morale inPirate Yakuza. Some options take a bit of time as you may increase a crew member’s morale individually, while other options can make large, sweeping improvements to morale in one fell swoop.

Raising crew morale costs money and resources,so make sure to stock up on money and ingredients in case a crewmate is in dire need of some cheering up.

You can’t raise morale unless you’re docked in a safe area. If you find yourself in combat, you either have to escape or finish the fight and find the closest lighthouse or safe zone.

Throw A Party Or Feast

What do pirates love?Alcohol, food, and a good time. The easiest way to improve crew morale is to throw a party.

Located near the entrance to the captain’s quarters, you can access the bar, which gives Captain Majima the option to throw parties with hotpot.

Throwing a partyraises the morale of every crew member on the Goromaru, so this option is perfect if a large portion of your crew isn’t doing great, or if you’re trying to max out their morale gauge to get that sweet stat bonus.

Alternatively, you can host a feast for five to ten crew members, depending on the meal you’ve cooked.Feasts not only increase morale but also boost the experience of your crewmates.

Feasts are a great way to not only improve your crew members' morale but to also quicklylevel up new crew members without prematurely exposing them to combat.

Give Your Crew Gifts

If you’re trying to level up one specific crew member, you might also find that they appreciate the occasional gift.

you’re able to find all sorts of gifts in shops and the open world, andsome NPCs might require specific gifts for them to join the Goro Pirates in the first place.

Some gifts might cost more than others, as they increasemore morale and experience for a crew member.

After reading this, raising morale is easier than ever inPirate Yakuza. After all, Majima’s got a successful construction company, so why wouldn’t he be loved by everybody he takes under his wing?
