A quick and stealthy heist that only Max can accomplish
In Chapter 1, you need to help Gwen Hunter, a coworker of Max, obtain a book from a locked cabinet, and this is also where you learn how Max can be a Golden Retriever of sorts for anyone in need of help.
Thankfully, with how quick these sections are, we’ve prepared a brief guide to discuss how you can unlock that cabinet, get that book for Gwen, and possibly get on her good side right from your first encounter.
Where To Find Gwen
Your first encounter with Gwen occurstowards the end of Chapter 1,during the Back to School Blues scenario,when Dr. Yasmin calls you for an appointment with her.
As you head to the Admin building to meet with Yasmin, you can also spot Reggie on the patio bench on the left, tinkering with theAbraxas Puzzle Box, a hidden sub-objective you can complete.
Once inside, talk to Vinh to catch up with him and get a rundown on Yasmin’s heated phone call from her office nearby; thankfully, we’ve got time to kill until she’s done.
You get a favor fromVinh to retrieve a package for himfrom the storage room, but more importantly, the sound of Gwen’s frustration from the library catches our attention.
Talk to Gwen Hunter here, and as you both share a heartfelt and grieving hug (or not) over Safi’s recent passing, you learn that she needs a book from the cabinet, but unfortunately, someone’s locked it already.
But given Max’s proneness to be a shoulder to lean on for anyone, you gladly agree to break open the lock to get the book.
How To Get The Book
Now, while we can actually pry open the cabinet’s lock, let’s try a subtle option first.
If you examine the book Gwen requested in the cabinet,you’ll be able to see its label tag,which also gives you a clue to an extra copy on"shelf 12"of the library.
Head to the right from here. Next to the antique clock, on shelf 12, you may inspect a spare copy of the book, as instructed on the tag.
Now, here’s the catch:Gwen wants the copy from the cabinet specifically because it’s a “10-Anniversary edition” with some special contents in it, so she turns down the spare copy immediately.
To actually get the book, head to Vinh’s workstation. Right next to Dr. Yasmin’s office doors, there’sa coffee dispenser station with a plastic spoonthat you can interact with and pick up.
Take it, head back to Gwen, and you can watch as Max forces open the lock with the spoon using her unconventional lockpicking skills.
There’s no trophy or achievement for helping her; it’s just that Gwen will remind Max that her office doors are open anytime if she wants anything.
