Upcoming steampunk soulslikeLikes of Pwill be made easier after its development team received feedback from players who ran through the game’s demo. Project Director Jiwon Choi, who appeared Friday evening as a guest on aTwitch Stream on zackrawrr’s channel, emphasized that his main goal with Lies of P is making a fun game without difficulty barriers that welcomes in all kinds of players.
“I think many people, when they play the soulslike games, they feel that it’s very difficult; that it’s not very easy to get to know the game…but our goal with Lies of P is ‘no, that’s not the case’,” Choi explained, speaking through a translator.

One of the general hallmarks of the soulslike genre is its games' tendency towards high difficulty, but Choi expressed multiple times during the interview that player accessibility and fun were high priorities for the development team. After receiving feedback from beta players, the team realized the original challenge level was proving to be too much of a barrier for some. “That has been resolved, and I think that you will see that it is still a very fun and challenging game but also a very exciting game,” he said.
Lies of P boastsa diverse array of combat options, which Choi said is a positive aspect of his game, but complicated mechanics such as its durability system were daunting to some players. While the team has made some changes there to help eliminate the entry barrier, he noted that the diversity has been preserved. However, there’s now more of a learning curve, and players will be able to choose the types of combat aspects at which they’d like to excel.
But he also said the story, which weavesa dark and sinister talecentered on classic literary puppet Pinocchio and will be presented through a combination of player interactions and cinematics, will be more easily accessible too. “It should be easy for the players …because we want all the players to be able to enjoy the storytelling of Lies of P,” he explained.
For skilled players who have a lot of experience with soulslikes, Choi estimated Lies of P will take about 30 hours to complete, but the team has put a lot of emphasis on the ending in particular, so quickly running through it may not be the best way to experience everything. “I think maybe 50 hours may not be enough,” he noted. “I think I can confidently say that.” He also said DLC is highly possible, though he’d like it to be focused more on additional single-player content than co-op, at least at first.
After a short delay to perfect the game, Lies of P is scheduled for release on September 19 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, with early access players getting their first taste on September 16.
