Graphical Changes, 4:3 to 16:9 Aspect Ratio
Legend of Manais originally a 2D game. In the remaster, all of the artwork has been redrawn in HD. This makes all of the game’s artwork and background clearer. One could argue that certain imperfections gave more fragrance to certain elements. Such as the leaves' shadows in the comparison above. You can make several comparisons on theLegend of Mana remasterJapanese official site.
Going from the PS1’s 4:3 aspect ratio to 16:9 aspect ratio, players now have a bigger view on the game’s environments. In other words, it’s kinda like if the screen is zoomed out.
UI Change, Text Font Change
Menus inLegend of Mana remasterhave been optimized and are easier to use. Whether it looks better or not is another debate though. At least It’s nice to see Square Enix took into considerations the menus. Considering the menu lag bug ofSeiken Densetsu 3was not corrected inCollection of Manaon Switch.
The text’s font has been changed as well, and it’s especially easier to read in Japanese. Moreover, the dialogue windows were enhanced and will now show more text.
Newly Rearranged Original Sound Track
Some of the music tracks in the game have been rearranged. Players can switch between the original or rearranged OST in the Options menu.
Turning On And Off Enemy Encounters
This new feature in the remaster allows you to turn off enemy encounters. Making re-exploration or backtracking less tedious.
New Gallery Mode And Music Mode
The Gallery Mode includes the original game’s illustrations and 2D artwork. The Music Mode lets you listen to all the tracks in the game. Note that the original PS1 game already had a sound test mode, but unlocked after clearing the game once. However, you may access Gallery Mode and Music Mode at any time inLegend of Mana Remaster, through the Options menu.
Save Anywhere And Auto Save Function
Legend of Mana remasterlets you save anywhere through the Option menu. However, there are exceptions and you cannot save in certain locations. In the original, you could only save at save points. A new Auto Save function was added as well.
Ring Ring Land Mini Game
The mini game Ring Ring Land was implemented intoLegend of Manaremaster. Rare items that are hard to obtain will be easier to get in through this mini game.
Regarding multiplayer
The original PS1 game had a multiplayer mode. A friend could bring their memory card and make their own protagonist join your party and play as a second player. There was also a coliseum where you could duel each other. Some of the screenshots Square Enix revealed does mention “2P Controller Settings”. Which seems to confirm offline co-op. However, we don’t know yet how this will work. If this is only offline co-op. Or if it’ll also include online multiplayer. Or new online multiplayer functions. One cool thing for example would be being able to trade pets and golems with other players. DualShockers contacted Square Enix regarding multiplayer and we’ll tell you as soon as possible when we get an answer.
Redrawn Character Artwork
The protagonists and all characters in the game have HD artwork now.
