Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolutionwill finally be making its way to Nintendo Switchon August 20,so it is worth noting that the new enhancements it brings is not coming to versions ofLegacy of the Dueliston other platforms. DualShockers learnedback in Marchthat “the mechanics inYu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolutionare exclusive to the Nintendo Switch,” meaning those who ownLegacy of the Dueliston PC, PS4, and Xbox One are missing out on the new features and content. In a recent interview, Konami Producer Charles Murakami elaborated on why exactly that decision was made.
According to Murakami, Konami is “considering different possibilities for all of our games on all systems.” That being said, the developers believe that that amount of new mechanics added madeLink Evolutiondifferent enough to where the changes could not be brought over to the PC, PS4, and Xbox One version ofLegacy of the Duelistthrough a simple update or DLC. “Link Summoning being added created lots of differences from the originalYu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist.ForLink Evolution, we tried to retain as much of the original game and add new content to it, but underneath it’s almost an entirely new game. So, it’s not the same as before where we can just add the cards via an update or DLC,” he highlighted.
While those who own the game on other consoles may be disappointed that they will have to pick the game up again to try the new story missions, link summoning, and play with the new ruleset, Charles did speak highly of working on Nintendo Switch and adapting aYu-Gi-Oh!console game for a hybrid system that works on the go. “We wanted to leverage the portability and home console style of the Switch, making it an intriguing choice for both local and online play…With the Switch being a hybrid console, we knew players will expect a feature that is in other portable Yu-Gi-Oh! games–local multiplayer. So, making sure all the multiplayer modes work both online and local play was essential,” Murakami told DualShockers.
