Soon after the announcement that theKingdom Heartsseries is coming to PC through an Epic Games Store exclusivity deal, Square Enix on Twitter shared a new message from series producerIchiro Hazama. He most notably explained why Square Enix decided to go with Epic Games Store.Long story short, Square Enix started using the Unreal Engine for theKingdom Heartsseries startingKingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, the very short game with Aqua as its protagonist. Seeing Unreal Engine is a property of Epic, it looks likeKingdom Heartswill be staying on the Epic Games Store for now. And it looks like Epic Games has been heavily involved with the making of these PC ports overall.
It’s also interesting to note the announcement tweet stated this is a “long-term partnership” between Epic and theKingdom Heartsseries.
These reasons explain whyKingdom Heartsis an Epic Games Store exclusivity. Many Epic Game Store exclusives in the past turned out to be temporary exclusives who later launched on Steam. But for now, it seems PC players will have to stick with Epic Games Store if they wantKHon PC. We’re unlikely to seeKingdom Heartson Steam, GOG, DMM, or anywhere else anytime soon.
