In all legendary manga, there is always a symbol that reminds fans of it. When they see it, all they think about is that manga. ForOne Piece,it’s the straw hat and the gorgeous ships. ForNaruto,it’s the forehead protector or metal headbands and the signature Sharingan eyes. Now, a new contender is emerging from a very recent manga,Kagurabachi.Fans on X only think aboutKagurabachiwhen they see a goldfish. The goldfish is the mascot of the series and is a consistent visual with Chihiro Rokuhira’s main ability.

This iconic goldfish will always establish a lasting connection withKagurabachifans, in much the same way that a straw hat or a Sharingan symbol does forOne PieceandNarutofans. By focusing on this symbol,Kagurabachimay become an icon in the manga industry. If you show it enough, it will embed into the collective memory of its audience, leading to a similar legacy that rivals the “Big Three” of anime.
The Black Goldfish as Kagurabachi’s Defining Symbol
InKagurabachi, the protagonist Chihiro Rokuhira has already drawn attention due to his unique abilities and a strong, consistent connection to a goldfish. The goldfish plays a philosophical role in Chihiro’s abilities and his backstory with his father. The black goldfish, Kuro, is his most common attack. The visual of a black goldfish, something very seamlessly woven into the narrative and blends with Japanese philosophy, could become the visual cue that reminds fans ofKagurabachi.

Kagurabachi Confirms Itself as Jujutsu Kaisen’s Successor With 1 Surprise Move
Inan interview with Asahi, the creator ofKagurabachispeaks about the importance of the goldfish to the story and how the aesthetics contribute to it:
I really intended to go with Koi until the last minute, but when finalizing the storyboard, I realized that goldfish would be easier to symbolize the daily life between Chihiro and his father.Plus, it’s about the ratio of the body to the fins. With Koi, the body is long, and even if you draw the fins beautifully, they end up looking chubby. When I tried drawing the scene where Chihiro unsheathes his sword in the first episode, I found that goldfish have a good balance with the fins, and there are also fantails, providing more variety in shape.

The fact thatTakeru Hokazonomanaged to embed this symbol into the minds of the fans this early is a truly fascinating phenomenon. It shows how meaningful the relationship between Chihiro and his father was, the days learning from him, and the morality of making swords. That’s when you realize the reason why his Kuro technique is so common is because the protagonist is mainly warding off evil people with his sword, the symbol of the black goldfish.
The Path to Becoming Part of the Big 3
“Let’s hope he won’t get influenced on how to write women”: Kagurabachi Taking Inspiration from Kishimoto’s Naruto is a Major Red Flag That Most Fans Won’t Readily Accept
ForKagurabachito reach the “Big Three”and the ranks ofNarutoorOne Piece, it will need more than just intense fight scenes and appealing characters. It will need to force itself into the minds of its audience through memorable imagery and messages. The black goldfish, as a unique and easily recognizable element, becomes central to the protagonist’s philosophy and thus, the key to making Hokazono’s work worthy of becoming one of the greatest manga.
