In case you were not aware, Richie Baneham secured his first Academy Award for Best Visual Effects in 2009 for the movieAvatar. Remarkably, he achieved another win in the same category last year for the long-awaited follow-up,Avatar: The Way of Water. The director of both films, James Cameron, had the honor of presenting Baneham with this prestigious accolade as well.

This is a big blow forGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3because the film had a budget of $250 million, whileGodzilla Minus Onehad approximately $12 million for its budget.
It is to be noted that this marks James Gunn’s final opportunity to win that particular award, as bothGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and Vol. 2were nominated in their respective years but did not secure the win for the same category. We will have to wait and see if the film will end up winning this time around.
