For the past several years, developerJackbox Games–initially known for iconic games likeYou Don’t Know Jack–has released its annual line of games inThe Jackbox Party Pack. The party game franchise has spawned a large roster of popular minigames over the years, such as fan favorites likeQuiplashandTrivia Murder Partyto outrageous hits likeTee K.O.andFibbage. Especially in a year like 2020, Jackbox’s line of games are ideal for the era of social distancing and virtual gatherings with friends, with the developer seeing a record year for its party game collections.
In a report fromBloomberg, developer Jackbox Games has had “its best year ever” in 2020, with sales of itsParty Packgame collections seeing huge sales surges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically,Bloombergnotes that the company is on track to double its number of players “to 200 million by the end of the year.”
Jackbox Games CEO Mike Bilder explained that initially, the company saw “a big explosion back in March, April, May” of this year in sales of its games, likely driven by the early months of the coronavirus pandemic when it began to hit the US and other regions around the world, jumping by “as much as 1,000% from last year.” However, Bilder added that while sales have leveled down since then, currently sales of theParty Packgames are still “significantly higher than it would be year after year.”
Notably, the company just released its latest collection of party games earlier this month withThe Jackbox Party Pack 7, which already is seeing a significant boost in sales compared to the launch of its past collections.Bloomberg’s report detailed thatParty Pack 7’s launch sales are “five times the day one sales” ofThe JackboxParty Pack 6, which launched around the same time last year.
The Jackbox Party Pack 7is available now on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and other digital platforms.
