Zack Snyder’s tenure in the DCU was tumultuous as his take on the DC brand and its characters was divisive among fans. The studio itself was not comfortable with Snyder’s dark approach to Superman and Batman, and thus, they demanded a lot of changes when he was makingJustice League.
The unfavorable studio interference and toxic nature of the fanbase disillusioned Snyder, and he left Warner Bros. He has talked many times about how Warner Bros wanted to follow the Marvel formula. Now, in an interview with Joe Rogan, Snyder has addressed how he got flak for going against one controversial stance regarding Batman among fans.

Zack Snyder’s take on the DCU characters was divisive among comic book enthusiasts as he deconstructed every perception of the characters and presented a unique take on them. One of the controversial things that he did was with the characterization of Ben Affleck’s Batman. While fans have always believed that Batman does not kill, Snyder wanted to explore what would happen if he did.

Snyder’s Batman is seen killing mercenaries left and right in the famous warehouse scene inBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Despite the scene being cool and badass, comic book fans were aghast at this complete departure from a canonical Batman characteristic. Snyder received so much flak about this aspect from die-hard DC fans.
Snyder recently appeared onThe Joe Rogan Experience, where he talked about the toxic nature of fandom and how they don’t like their character to be challenged in any way. They like to preserve their God-like perception of their beloved characters, and this prevents visionaries like Snyder from taking risks with them. He said,
“So Batman can’t kill is canon. So I’m like ok, the first thing I wanna do when you say that is I wanna see what happens. And they go like ‘Don’t put him in a situation where he has to kill someone. And I’m like, Well that’s just like, you’re protecting your god in a weird way.
You’re making your god irrelevant if he can’t be in that situation. He has to deal with that and if does do that what does that mean? Can he stand up to it, can he survive that, as a God as your God? Can Batman survive that?”
Joe Roganagreed with Snyder’s sentiments, remarking how“it seems ridiculous given the circumstances in which Batman operates.”There is a certain toxicity within comic book fandom that has become prevalent, and Snyder has realized that and has moved away from that world. He has instead developed his own universe in the form ofRebel Moonand its upcoming sequels.

Zack Snyder‘sRebel Moonintroduced fans to a new world based on his own creation about a group of warriors coming together to take down a tyrannical government. The sequel of the film is set to release in April this year. It was also announced that both films will receive the director’s cut versions, and Snyder has now revealed when it will be released.

In an interview withI Minutemen, the director revealed that the director’s cut of bothRebel Moonfilms will most probably be released in the summer of this year. He further stated that his version of the films will be an hour longer than the original versions, and it will be R-rated. He said,
“Those will come out, probably, on the same day – later. We don’t have a date yet, but I think it’s going to be in the summer. They’re each about an hour longer than the originals, the PG-13 [versions]. So it’ll be nice to see the six hours together. You can take a break, of course. It’s a more, maybe, immersive experience. I’m interested for people to see it that way. It’s very adult, it’s very R-rated.”
Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiveris set to release on July 18, 2025, on Netflix. While the first film received negative views, the second film might change the audience’s perception of the whole thing. It also remains to be seen how the director’s cut of the films differs from the original cut.
