In November 2024, anime fans were given the news of Yuto Suzuki’sSakamoto Daysbeing adapted into an anime series and hitting the streaming platforms on July 04, 2025. The series is one of the most anticipated narratives that was originally released as a manga in 2020 and has over 7 million copies in circulation within the manga industry.

But the Underworld is not done with him and comes back to haunt him in his normal life, which forces Sakamoto to resort to his old ways.
While the story is indeed enticing, it presents a challenge to the voice actor of Taro Sakamoto, Tomokazu Sugita, because of the change in his weight. Thus Sugita decided to use one of his significant tricks that helped him in portraying Sakamoto’s character in the most perfect way possible.

Sugita stated:
When Sugita’s limbs and neck get thicker and his stomach gets bigger, his center of gravity becomes more stable. But just because he’s thin doesn’t mean he can’t sing louder. So when I’m trying to sing the voice of a giant, how should I use my body? I think about that in my own way while I’m acting. It certainly makes a difference when your neck gets thicker. It’s not just a fat guy.
Voicing Taro Sakamoto presents a big challenge for Sugita considering the fact that he constantly changes his weight while fighting. Thus, Sugita pointed out that he constantly thickens his limbs and neck making his center of gravity more stable.

He pointed out that while using his body differently does make a lot of difference, he is just testing and trying other aspects to make sure that Taro’s role fits perfectly with his voiceinSakamoto Days.
The significance of the body in voice acting
While talking about constantly changing parts of his body, Sugita revealed that the shape and balance of the body matter a lot. He revealed that the body is absolutely necessary to produce the voice as the strength and support of the entire body are needed. He even stated that even shoes became popularamong voice-acting professionalsto maintain body balance.
The balance of the lower body is important because the body supports the body and produces the voice with the whole body. There are times when shoes become popular among the same profession, and everyone starts wearing the same type of shoes.

Sugita is known for his deep voice as he has portrayed the role of many muscular characters like Gyomei Himejima inDemon Slayer, Charlotte Katakuri inOne Piece, and Escanor inThe Seven Deadly Sins.
