TheOcean’strilogy has been one of the most iconic moments in Hollywood history. Both commercial and critical hits, the films have gained themselves a loyal following, one that’s waiting patiently for the next installment in the franchise. Starring Matt Damon, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and more,Ocean’s Thirteenwas the third film in the OG trilogy and despite the fact that it has been almost 2 decades since it was released, we are still holding onto the hope that the heist comedy will return.

Now, in a recent interview, Matt Damon opened up about the possibility ofOcean’s Fourteenand the actor’s words both gave us hope and snatched it away at the same time.

During the conversation, Damon was asked about his upcoming project,Christopher Nolan‘sThe Odyssey, as well as the rumoredOcean’s 13sequel. While he confirmed that“‘The Odyssey’ is definitely happening,” he wasn’t too sure about what’s next for theOcean’sfranchise.

However, Damon revealed that he joined his former co-star,George Clooney, for brunch recently where they discussed the possibility of the trilogy’s future. Unfortunately for the fans, theGood Will Huntingactor stated that nothing can be said for sure as of now.

Of course, he couldn’t just leave his fans upset and thus added that despite the uncertainty, Clooney seems optimistic about the idea.
And with Oceans, I saw George this weekend; he’s in town because he’s getting ready to do a play on Broadway, so we had brunch together and you know, it’s Hollywood, so it’s never a sure thing until it’s a sure thing, but he seems bullish on it. So hopefully it’ll happen.

Well, there is still some hope after all!
Who would direct the next installment?
A potentialOcean’s 13sequel was rumored to be in discussions back in 2021 but nothing of the sort happened. In an interview withUproxxin 2023, Clooney also revealed that there was a great script for the sequel, just in case the studio decides to go ahead with it.
In his words,“We have a really good script for another Ocean’s now, so we may end up doing another one. It’s actually a great script.”

Now, it looks like we are finally moving toward the direction of some real developments in the future of theOcean’sfranchise. According to a report byThe InSneider, directorDavid Leitchis in early talks to direct the rumored sequel.

Leitch is best known for films likeAtomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, Bullet Train, The Fall Guy,and more. While there is no denying that the franchise will be in good hands, Damon once stated that the possible sequel would be up to the OG director,Steven Soderbergh.
During his appearance onGood Morning America, Damon said, “It would always be up to Steven Soderbergh if there was a story.” Would the actor want to reprise the role of Linus Caldwell if Leitch was the one helming the film and not Soderbergh? Guess we will find out.
