What’s Behind the Mel Gibson Controversy?

Mel Gibsonfaced severe isolation from Hollywood after a series of troubling incidents. It all started with his highly publicized DUI arrest in Malibu back in 2006, where he made anti-Semitic comments. Subsequently, leaked tapes in 2010 captured Gibson making racist remarks, including the use of derogatory language towards his then-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, who also then later accused him of physical abuse.

Hollywood sensation, Winona Ryder also very recently recounted an incident of the 1990s, involving Gibson where he allegedly made anti-Semitic remarks towards her, labeling her an“oven-dodger,”referring to the Holocaust. Gibson since then has refuted her claims. Although Gibson has since then also apologized for his words, the series of troubling and highly publicized incidents naturally led to his ostracism in the industry, and that is what Oldman denounced in a Playboy magazine interview.

He further continued stating,

“Mel Gibson is in a town that’s run by Jews and he said the wrong thing because he’s actually bitten the hand that I guess has fed him – and doesn’t need to feed him anymore because he’s got enough dough,–But some Jewish guy in his office somewhere hasn’t turned and said, ‘That fing kraut’ or ‘F those Germans,’ whatever it is? We all hide and try to be so politically correct. That’s what gets me. It’s just the sheer hypocrisy of everyone.”
