The WWE has been a hot topic for both in-ring and out-of-the-ring reasons. As the wrestling company builds steam to arguably its biggest pay-per-view of the year in WrestleMania 40, The Rock’s involvement in the event has been a major talking point. The Rock has also consistently used cuss words in the build-up to the event, raising questions over the WWE’s philosophy.

Paul Levesque, aka Triple H, recently appeared on a podcast, where he discussed the upcoming WrestleMania 40 and commented on The Rock using crass language in his promos. At the same time, Triple H also revealed whether The Rock’s uncensored talking was the first step to a revival of the unhinged Attitude Era of the WWE.

During the interview, Paul asked Triple H about the increased swearing within the WWE programming, citing Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s recent appearances as an example. Triple H addressed the situation by comparing it to movies, where the drama leading up to a gunshot complements the act of violence.

“I believe there’s a time for things to work there’s a time for everything, but it’s got to be done in moderation. It’s got to be done when it’s right.”

Triple H Hints the WWE is Not Reviving the Attitude Era Anytime Soon
During the podcast, Triple H also dismissed the suggestion that the WWE was resorting more to the use of blood and swearing to appear edgier ahead of its move to Netflix. Triple H explained that using mechanics such as cuss words and blood had to have a meaning.
He recalled his Attitude Era days, revealing those gimmicks started losing their value because they had become a regular occurrence. In contrast, Triple H suggested it was about finding the right opportunity to use these gimmicks, which he felt was the case with The Rock’s current status and storyline in the WWE.

“It’s not a shift of philosophy. It’s just when it’s needed (to) pull the trigger but the discipline is only pulling the trigger when it really means something and when it’s shocking.”

The Rock and Roman Reigns will face Cody Rhodes and Seth “Freakin” Rollins on the first night of WrestleMania XL.
