Publisher Bandai Namco has announced that it has canceled several games that were in development to overcome its losses with a change in strategy, and it has worried fans that this might also have some implications for the already-announcedElden RingDLC.

Elden RingDLC was announced in 2023 and has been in development since then with no release date. Fans have been clamoring for some details on the expansion, but the developers have remained silent. The publisher revealed during a recentQ&A sessionfollowing its latest financial report that it has canceled“at least”five games that were in development.

The company said that it is changing its approach to game development and will now focus on quality. It further stated that it had to cancel these games due to their high development costs and following its internal rules taken into consideration during the evaluation of projects in development.

It added that the company’s disappointing financial reports for underperforming games were also a major reason for the cancellation of the titles. The company revealed that it recorded a 96% fall in income as compared to 2022 and an 8.9% fall in year-over-year sales of games.

The changes announced raised questions about theElden RingDLC’s development, but the publisher eased the minds of fans by saying that it is still working onShadow of the Erdtreeand games in theDragon Ballseries, urging players to“look forward to it.”It said:
We are preparing a lineup of titles under development, including large-scale downloadable content for Elden Ring and a new game for Dragon Ball.

TheElden Ringexpansion was rumored to release this February around the game’s second anniversary, but the parent company of FromSoftware said that it is still in development and does not have a release date, meaning that the expansion in no way could be released this February.
There were several other leaks, such as the collaboration between Thrustmaster and Bandai forElden Ring-themed controllers, backend Steam updates, and more, all pointing to a February 2024 release, but they were all quashed by Kadokawa.
