Marvel and Disney just released a new trailer forMs. Marvel, and newcomer fans are wondering if the titular Ms Marvel is a Muslim or not.
Ms. Marvelis a brand new Disney+TV series based on Marvel comics. There are several heroes with the title Ms. Marvel. It’s an inherited title, so all of the Ms. Marvel so far aren’t related to each other, all have different abilities, and a different superhero costume.
The current Ms. Marvel is the fourth person to inherit the title, and it’s Kamala Khan. She already appeared multiple times in the MCU, but she’s now getting her dedicated TV series.
Is Ms. Marvel a Muslim in the MCU?
Kamala Khan both in the comics and in the MCU movies is a second-generation Pakistani-American high school girl and a Muslim. Kamala Khan is the first-ever Muslim main character in Marvel Comics to be a solo hero with her own series. She was also one of the main characters in theMarvel’s Avengers Gameby Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix, so she’s overall a very important character.
Is Ms. Marvel a Muslim even if she’s not wearing X?
As a Muslim myself, I believe it’s important to point out one of the biggest mistakes you’re able to make is assuming someone is a Muslim or not based on what they wear or what they look like. Everyone is different and even inside a single country, you can find several different types of Muslim people. In my own country, for example, it’s not unusual for Muslim women who want to wear a Hijab to avoid doing so because of sexism, islamophobia, and the overall discrimination-related issues in the country. There’s an infinite number of reasons why someone dresses the way they do. The creators of Kamala Khanalso mentioned in past interviewsthey tried to avoid making her a stereotypical poster girl of her religion, so you should keep that in mind.
