The anime and world have rarely ever seen an organization as terrifying as the Akatsuki. The group of rebel Shinobis inNarutohad a major impact on the series as they were one of the most important villains, portraying their narrative and their abilities over the course of the series. While the first two Akatsuki shown in the series were Itachi and Kisame, their original strength was reflected during the introduction of Hidan and Kakuzu.

Both Hidan and Kakuzu were members of the Akatsuki, and although they had different ideologies, they worked perfectly together. Kakuzu’s entire abilities were revealed late inNaruto, but Hidan already showed fans what he was capable of, and it was truly terrifying. He gave a glimpse of what the Akatsuki were capable of.
This was the moment whereNarutopeaked as a series, but as the story progressed, the complete strength of Akatsuki became a less terrifying matter for the Konoha shinobis as they got accustomed to the organization.

Hidan’s Introduction Was Truly Terrifying
AsNarutofans might know, Akatsuki became prominently active after the time skip. The first major interaction between the members of Akatsuki and the shinobis of Konoha happened during the Akatsuki Suppression Mission arc when Hidan and Kakuzu were given the task of capturing the two-tailed beast and then moving on to the land of fire.

As they moved closer to Konoha, they met with Team 10, which consisted of Shikamaru, Choji, Ino, and their mentor Asuma. Along with them, Kotetsu Hagane and Izumo Kamizuki also helped them in defeating the newly introduced Akatsuki members. During the beginning of the fight, Hidan decided to take charge and let Kakuzu rest.
While this felt odd toNarutofans, Hidan’s ability changed the narrative instantly. Hidan was practically immortal. No matter what attack they used, the Konoha shinobis could not kill him. In fact, his technique allowed him to transfer all the pain he felt in his body to Asuma as he ingested his blood. It was truly terrifying to watch, and the battle resulted inthe death of Asuma.

The Curse Jutsu That Imbued Fear in the Minds ofNarutoFans
Hidan’s jutsu is called Curse Jutsu: Death Possession. Blood was the moment inNarutowhen fans understood that the Akatsuki are a force to be reckoned with. Hidan carried a triple-bladed scythe, which was also a long-range weapon, and its only purpose was to draw blood out of Hidan’s opponents. Once Hidan got his hands on his opponent’s blood, it was over for them.
As soon as Hidan tastes his opponent’s blood and draws the circle of Jashin on the ground, his body’s color turns black and white, and that’s when the real nightmares begin.

Whatever attack is thrown toward Hidan, it is reflected on his opponent’s body as long as he is within the circle. However, even outside of the circle, Hidan is a difficult opponent.

Hidan had the power of immortality, which allowed him to survive the strongest of attacks. Thus it was practically impossible for the opponents to defeat him, and the only possible move was to escape from the place. Hidan’s curse jutsu was, in a way, a reflection of Akatsuki’s terror in theNarutoworld, which dulled a little as the series went on.
