Anne Hathaway and co-star Nicholas Galitzine showed immense chemistry in their 2024 film,The Idea of You. Hathaway played Solène, a divorced mother and art gallery owner, who falls for the lead singer of a popular boy band. The duo’s chemistry worked in favor of the film as it received positive reviews from critics upon release.

While filming the climax, Hathaway fell ill and later shared that she wouldn’t have been able to finish the film without Galitzine’s support. Hathaway also credited director Michael Showalter for coming up with the idea to energize her. She shared that both of them helped her get through the most difficult part of the shoot.

Anne Hathawaywasn’t in her best physical health when she filmed her final scenes inThe Idea of You. During an interview withEntertainment Weekly, Hathaway revealed that she fell sick during that time, almost making it impossible for her to film the important scenes.

She shared that she had no idea how she was going to film the scenes. She shared,“I was not just running on empty, I’d eaten the tank, and I was just physically [doing] poorly, and I didn’t know how I was going to do it.”However,Nicholas Galitzinewas there to support her through this difficult time. She shared,“Nick was such a rock.”
It came to a point where she no longer could finish the day. She told the director that she needed energy and Michael Showalter found the perfect solution for her. Showalter depended on Galitzine to provide her with the energy she needed. Hathaway shared that the director“turned on a piece of music right as he yelled action.”

She shared that she was in the moment with Galitzine with whatever energy she had left in her. She shared,“[Galitzine] just poured energy in me. I was in the moment and I had exactly enough left for whatever was happening, and I just needed to not blow it.”She shared that Galitzine did the heavy lifting in the scene and she just needed to react to it.

The two actors had intimate scenes in the film. They were often intense, so intimacy coordinators actively guided them through such scenes. In an interview withBritish GQ, Galitzine shared that the intimacy coordinators would give them Listerine strips for the scenes. After the film, Hathaway gifted him a painting of Listerine strips. He shared:
Oftentimes, our intimacy coordinator would come in and give us a Listerine strip. And we used them so much that Annie was kind enough to commission a painting of Listerine strips for me. And now I have that hanging up in my apartment.

The Idea of Youis based on Robinne Lee’s novel of the same name. The character of Anne Hathaway madesome significant deviations from the book. Solène in the book was more like a damsel in distress. The hero shows up and saves her from her dormant s*xual life. However, the film did away with such a stereotype, which was actually praised by fans.
