Speaking toDeadline, Sheridan praised Coleman’s humility, grace, and the kindness Coleman showed to an up-and-coming actor like him. Sheridan learned the power of simplicity as an actor from him and admired how Coleman was patient with him when he asked him several questions about the craft.

When Coleman agreed to be inYellowstone, Sheridan was incredibly humbled and called his performance on the show a lesson in bravery and emotional honesty. The Yellowstone creator would be forever grateful to Coleman and claimed that he would miss the treasured actor. Sheridan said,
I had the opportunity to work with Dabney in 2003 and learned priceless lessons in the power of simplicity as an artist, but more importantly, I witnessed Dabney’s humility, grace, and patience (with my 10,000 questions).

I never forgot those lessons and was humbled myself when he agreed to appear on Yellowstone. His performance was yet another lesson in bravery and emotional honesty. Dabney Coleman is a treasure. He will be missed and admired, always.
Outside of Yellowstone, Coleman entertained audiences with his performances in hit films such as9 to 5, Tootsie, and WarGamesamong others. He was a singular talent that always elevated the material he was given. As Sheridan stated, he was a gem that would be terribly missed and his works will continue to be celebrated.

Sheridan stated that he and McConaughey had been talking for many years and had brainstormed many ideas for a collaboration between them. He seems like a natural fit. We had a few conversations over the years and spitballed a few ideas. Then he started watching Yellowstone and responded to it. He was like, ‘I want to do that.’ And by ‘that’ he meant diving into a raw world clashing up against the modern world. And then I said, ‘Buddy, that we can do.’

Sheridan is a busy man these days working and developing multiple shows for Paramount+. In addition to finishingYellowstone,the second season of1923, Tulsa KingandSpecial Ops: Lionessare in early stages of development. He is also currently shooting a new show calledLawmanwith Jon Hamm.
