It’s been a long decade for fans of Dragon Age. After three rapid releases in Dragon Age: Origins (2009), Dragon Age 2 (2011) and Dragon Age: Inquisition (2014), they’ve had to subsist on cross-media content, like the comic series from Dark Horse and Dragon Age: Absolution, a Netflix animated series.

The anticipation within the community forDragon Age: Dreadwolfhas reached a fever pitch, with multiple sources agreeing that BioWare is ready to announce a release date this summer. BioWare promised a “full reveal in summer 2024” duringlast year’s Dragon Age Day, but reports suggest progress on the game has been very promising.

Dragon Age Inquisition Solas

Electronic Arts is confident Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will be released before the end of its financial year, March 2025 (thanks,VGC). However, BioWare isreportedly “very pleased”with Dreadwolf, meaning the game will likely be released before the holiday period. All signs point to a release date reveal at the upcoming Summer Game Fest.

Yet, and this speaks to the psyche of your average Dragon Age fan, the community isn’t letting themselves get too excited, preferring instead to maintain an air of cautious optimism. It isn’t surprising, when you allow yourself to become excited for Dragon Age Day year after year with no pay-off, you’re going to temper your expectations.

Years Of Disappointment

“I want to be hyped for it so bad but at the same time I’m scared of having my dreams crushed,” saysone commenteron the Dragon Age subreddit. “It’s wise to keep a little bit of doubt in your mind not out of pessimism but to avoid potential disappointment and heartbreak,”another commentersays.

There’s also a combative air in the thread as people who have been waiting a decade for an ending to Solas’ story disagree on what that ending should be. This could be a precursor to some of the discourse we should expect to witness when Dreadwolf releases. These are characters people care about a lot, and some people will inevitably be disappointed.

Summer Game Fest kicks off on June 7. Electronic Arts has yet to announce a showcase, so Dreadwolf would likely feature at the main event.
