“Yeah, definitely offensive. I said a lot of stuff back then. This was a time where I was cutting a promo on Rey Mysterio and I said, ‘Rey Mysterio, you’re a boy in a man’s world, and I’m a man who loves to play with boys.’ I was like, ‘No, that’s not what I meant.’ I did this like three times, I messed up and said something perverted.”

Kurt Angle added that much of it has transitioned into memes today. However, although the statements were racist and outright offensive, Angle held himself responsible for enjoying those things.

“I said a lot of stuff back then. I even said I’m not a fan of Black people. I said some crazy stuff that Vince McMahon had me say and it just wouldn’t fly today. That was one of the promos that people took offense to. I enjoyed doing it, I really did, it was funny.”

When he was asked if he ever denied saying those problematic things, Kurt Angle nodded negatively. He agreed that he should not have said certain things and regrets those comments. Interestingly, later a former writer also came forward to sue Mr. McMahon over racist scripts.

Did a former WWE writer sue Vince McMahon?

Vince McMahon found himself amidst another controversy when former WWE writer Britney Abrahams sued him and WWE. She was fired from the company for taking home a chair with “WrestleMania 38” branding. She claimed that it was racist behavior as other writers who did the same thing did not receive similar treatment.

Abrahams also complained that she and some writers were forced to induce racial and sexist stereotypes in the scripts. When she and the others talked about the issue to Vice President Christine Lubrano, he replied (viaBloomberg):

“Wacky things are said in the writer’s room all the time! I know but look at the waves we’re making in the company. 4 years ago, no woman worked on the writer’s team!”

Later, on further opposing racist and sexist pitches, she was ultimately fired from the company for taking home the chair.
