The singer’s tragic death comes a few days after his ex-girlfriend Maya Henry issued a cease and desist letter against Payne. In a recent conversation with Sameera Rachakonda and Brittany Deitch onThe Internet is Deadpodcast, Henry shared that Payne’s phone calls to her had turned extreme. She shared that it all felt like a manipulation tactic to her, sharing that she would then feel bad for him. Henry shared that Payne used to play with death and would message her, saying that he was not doing well and was going to die. She shared (via X):
I always felt like it was a manipulation tactic to keep me. I don’t know. It’s kind of complicated. But I always felt like it was so that I could continue to feel bad for him. And because he would always message me ever since we broke up, ‘Oh, I’m not well.’ He would always play with death and be like, ‘I’m gonna die. I’m not doing well.’

Henry also added that Payne wouldsend messages to her mother Azteca Henry, asking her to have Maya contact him. Henry’s comments over the last couple of weeks have come under brutal social media bashing following the pop star’s death. However, Henry could’ve never anticipated the singer’s sudden death and is reportedly“in shock”over the tragic news.

Emergency workers confirmed his death and removed his body from the hotel to take him to the morgue. Alberto Crescenti, the director of Emergency medical services, told local media that the singer had suffered serious injuries and added that an autopsy would be carried out (via BBC).
Fans ofthe One Direction stargathered around the hotel after the news began spreading. A few days back, Payne attended the concert of his former bandmate Niall Horan in Buenos Aires. Payne has been open about his struggles with mental health and using alcohol as a coping mechanism. Hours before the incident, Payne took to Snapchat to comment about his lovely day in Argentina.
