One of the greatest anime and manga series of all time,Attack on Titanby Hajime Isayama, is making a comeback with a special film that will focus on the final two episodes of the series. The movie is calledAttack on Titan: The Last Attackand it will witness a special theatrical release from February 10 to February 13 in limited theaters.

The movie will most probably be the last project from the franchise, and thus it holds a special significance in the hearts of fans who have been asking for Eren Yeager, the series’ protagonist, to make a return. It won’t be a stretch to say that Eren is considered by many as the greatest protagonist who has ever been part of the anime industry.
And much of the credit for his popularity goes to the voice actors who brought his true emotions out through their voices, which certainly wasn’t easy at all. Bryce Papenbrook, Eren’s English voice actor inAttack on Titan, recently shared his experience while voicing Eren’s character and the pain he had to go through to bring the true essence of Eren’s emotions out.

Bryce Papenbrook channeled his inner Eren through intense pain
In an exclusive interview withComic Book Resources, the English voice actors ofAttack on Titanshared their experiences while working on the series. During the discussion, Papenbrook revealed that to bring out Eren’s anger, he had to bite his own hand, just like theAttack on Titanprotagonist did while transforming into his Titan form.

Papenbrook stated:
So in Season 1, when Eren bites his hand, I bit my hand so hard that I left bruises. In Season 2, Eren’s more unhinged than ever before, so I literally unhinged my jaw in the booth because I wanted the pain to come through. I hope it did.
According to the English voice actor, Eren’s character had an anger within him and in order to bring the intensity of that anger, Papenbrook had to do some dangerous things that left him in intense pain.

For the first season, it was the biting of the hand that left bruises, and for the second season, he had to unhinge his jaw during one of the scenes to portray the same pain that Eren had been going through inAttack on Titananime.
The different variations of Eren Yeager inAttack on Titan
While talking about the pain and suffering thatBryce Papenbrookhad to go through while portraying Eren, theAttack on Titanvoice actor pointed out thatEren’s transformationthroughout the entire story was quite amazing for him. He had to display that journey through his voice and thus he had to bring different kinds of variations in his role.
So, there’s this anger that’s emanating through every line that Eren has in Seasons 1-3, and in Season 4, that anger is still there, but it’s buried under this icy shell. It makes Eren cold, and that’s terrifying. So, to be able to play Eren in four different ways: Itty bitty Eren, angsty teenage Eren, much larger Eren, and what we see in Season 4, was just an amazing journey.

While Eren’s character behaves differently in every season, the one thing that remains similar in all of it is his anger. TheAttack on Titanprotagonist is continuously angry, but the ways he portrays it are quite different.

AndAttack on Titan: The Last Attackwill showcase the last stage of his anger which results in a literal genocide of 80% of the world’s population because of the rumbling. Hopefully, the film will have some additional scenes that could helpwith the controversial endingof the series.
