Batman: Arkham Shadowis around the corner, and the gaming world is all hyped up about this virtual reality title. Honors lie on Camouflaj for carrying the legacy forward, which was built by Rocksteady so far.

This upcoming VR title is going to be the eighth installment in theBatman: Arkhamseries. Camouflaj has already shown its potential inIron Man VRand is gearing up to do the same in the fall of 2024. However, there is one aspect that OG fans of this series are surely going to miss.
Third-person Melee Combat Won’t Be a Part of Batman: Arkham Shadow
Batman: Arkhamhas made a huge name in the world of gaming, and that too, on all platforms. However, in the case ofArkham: Shadow, things are going to be a bit different.
As a VR game, the upcoming installment of the popular series is going to be available only on Meta Quest 3, not on any familiar console or PC. So, this is going to be a huge ask for Camouflaj to do the proper justice to the franchise, despite the limitation of platforms.

“Actually have it feel like an evolution”: Batman: Arkham Shadow Dev Saying Controversial VR Route Will Evolve the Game is the Joke of the Century
Another major concern for the developing studios has to be the absence of conventional melee battles in the previous games of the franchise. Without any doubt, third-person melee combat is the USP of theBatman: Arkhamfranchise.
That is why Camouflaj Founder and Director, Ryan Payton, exclaimed toGaming Biblein an interview that Rocksteady Studios“revolutionized third-person melee combat.”

Payton himself knew this was going to be a huge task to jump on the battlefield without the best weapon of the franchise:
coming from a guy that’s typically known as an optimist, I just couldn’t see it.

Not only that, many studios after that tried to replicate the element of success of Rocksteady as far as third-person melee combat is concerned. All of the games in this series have been superhits because of their impeccable combat experience, which you cannot feel in a VR setting. Now, it’s up to Payton and his team how they transcend the typical combat feel of the franchise into the world of Meta Quest 3.
More About Batman: Arkham Shadow
Thenhow is the highly anticipated title going to feel? Obviously, the combat in an absolutely new environment is going to be a lot different. In this game, every move will matter as it will involve a form of bullet time, where everything will slow down while you plan your next move.
Batman: Arkham Shadow Fans Think a Helldivers 2 Legend is Replacing the Late Kevin Conroy in Playing the Caped Crusader in the Upcoming Game
Describing about the upcoming game, Payton picked five things that“make Arkham, Arkham”:
exploration as Batman grappling around, running and sliding into vents navigating areas, going into floor grates, you know, sneaking up behind the guy, pulling him down and then zipping up to a vantage point.

Also, the studio head assured us that the game being not only a VR game but Quest 3 exclusive, it will allow players to become Batman, like they have never been before.
The assuring words from the studio boss himself do give us hopes of a unique Batman game, but will it ever do the justice to the OG series? What’s your opinion on Batman: Arkham Shadow? Share your thoughts with us in the comment section.
