The Chimera Ant arc was exceptional. Yoshihiro Togashi outdid himself with that arc. It was full of memorable moments, including Gon’s adult form, Komugi and Meruem’s last game, Poor Man’s Rose, etc. In that arc, fans got to experience the greatest-ever villain inHunter x Hunter. Meruem outdid all the previous protagonists.
Meruem defeated Netero, but the latter’s master stroke got Earth rid of the Chimera Ants. Even though it was only for a bit, the fans experienced a transformed Meruem after his general tried to revive him. The form was so mighty, that the fans believe Netero would have lost earlier if he faced a transformed Meruem.
Transformed Meruem Still Holds The Top Position
Hunter x Hunterfans had to wait several episodes to watch Meruem’s birth. Multiple humans were slaughtered and fed to the Queen Chimera Ant so that her son could become the ultimate being. Likewise, his presence sends shivers down everyone’s spine. But Hunter Association’s Chairman took it upon himself to save humanity. He fought Meruem in a death battle and perished. But before sacrificing himself, he released Poor Man’s Rose.

It was a poison stored in his body that could kill anyone who inhaled the gas. Meruem ‘s victory was short-lived since he consumed most of the poison. But two of his generals, Shaiapouf and Menthuthuyoupi, transferred their energy to him. With their help, he found an ascended form. He became more potent than before and had both of his generals’ abilities.
All of his Nen abilities drastically improved, including his En. Fans believe that transformed Meruem was and still is the most potent antagonist in Hunter x Hunter. But the transformation was of no help. The poison had already done its part. But it gaveMeruemone last chance to meet Komugi and die in her arms. The poison was contagious and also killed Komugi. Their relationship will have poignant vibes.
Hunter x HunterFans Hold Transformed Meruem In High Regards
According to theHunter x Hunterfandom, had Meruem not been affected by the poison, he would have wiped out the entire Hunter Association. Netero gave a hard time to the Chimera Ant King, but he would not have landed a single blow if he had to face the ascended form. One of the Reddit users wrote,“This is what came to mind. He was “enlightened” and was beyond comprehension. I don’t think Netero would land a hit in Meruem 2.0.”
Yoshihiro Togashiused every color in his palette while making the Chimera Ant arc. The light-colored opening, the slow transition to dark colors, all of a sudden, black consumed everything, jumping between shades of grey and finally ending on a light tone. It was a rollercoaster of emotions.
Unfortunately, the manga had several long hiatuses due to the mangaka’s severe health issues. But Togashi sensei is back and trying his best to wrap up his masterpiece. Moreover, everyone is excited to see the Dark Continent arc, which will happen after the Succession War arc.
