Given his past experience with the film and the unpredictability of success in Hollywood, Robbins was not expectingClint Eastwood‘s equally critically acclaimed film would win him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Talking toDeadlinerecently, Robbins stated,
You never know, because there’s so many factors in a film’s life. Having lived through it with Shawshank I knew this as well, that you never know how well it’s going to be received.

According to the Oscar-winning director, what makes or breaks a film is not just its quality or actors’ performances, but the support it receives from key figures, who not only believe but are willing to invest in its promotions.
Considering himself extremely lucky and fortunate to have been in such a film with such a supportive cast and crew, Robbins further added,

So we got very lucky with that. And I was super fortunate to catch the tail end of the idea that a film can be art and a film can be made for adults that are interested in watching something that might they might not have seen before.
For Tim Robbins, his Oscar win not only represents a personal achievement but also highlights the importance of alignment of crucial factors like the right timing, the right people, and the opportunity to work on a film that challenges the audience. While conversing with Deadline, Robbins not only revealed a surprising fact about the esteemed director-actor but also sang his praise.
[He was] amazing. Amazing. I think what you see in Mystic River, most of what you see in Mystic River is the first take…because he only would do one take. So you come prepared, disciplined, ready to work, know all your lines because you know you only have one shot at it. So, you get three shots, there are three set-ups – you get a wide, a mid, and a close. But he’s not going to do two second takes.

Not only did the actor have a blast working for Eastwood and in his $156 million film (viaThe Numbers), but he also gave his career-best performance thanks to the director’s one-take rule. So it wasn’t shocking when Robbins remarked next,
We didn’t work any day… at least I didn’t on that film for more than 7 hours.
Fortunately, Clint Eastwood’s vision and approach were exactly what the film needed and it rightly so went on to earn six Academy Award nominations and won several other accolades as well.
Mystic RiverandThe Shawshank Redemptionare available to be streamed on Netflix.
