Emily Rudd playing the role of Nami in the recentOne Piecelive-action adaptation series is without a doubt one of the best decisions the casting team of Netflix has ever made. Not only does she play her role with perfection, but she quite literally descends into the character of Nami, essentially giving the best performance on screen.One major aspect challenge that is faced during the production of any anime’s live-action adaptation is the reproduction of stunts in real life. This was the case with theOne Piecelive-action series too, but fortunately, they were able to overcome it with the help of the dedicated cast, such as Rudd herself, who agreed to do all her grueling stunt scenes on her own.

Revealed in a behind-the-scenes video released byNetflix,Emily Rudddiscloses how she failed to feel challenged when she was introduced to the stunt scenes in the script. Talking about her experience, she said:
“Nami is a pro at the bo staff, and that’s something you see in the manga, and we wanted to bring more into the live-action series, and god, the fight sequences are so fun to do. So, I’m kind of like ‘Throw them all in, I’ll do them all.”

Emily Rudd further reveals how she actually grew up doing karate, so it was an exciting experience for her to put those skills to the test once again. She was also appreciated by Franz Spilhaus, the stunt coordinator for the series, who unveils how he and Rudd’s stunt double were both impressed with her capability of performing her own scenes.
Another factor that makes Rudd perfect for the role of Nami is how Marc Jobst, the director of the pilot episodes as well as one of the casting memberspreferred hiring actors who were able to play out their stuntsfor the live-action series.
