Disney and Lucasfilm refuse to let the ghosts of the Skywalker clan rest in peace after the disaster show that was the sequel trilogy. What started as a novelty with George Lucas’ original trilogy was running on fumes by the point the Skywalker saga concluded in 2019 with the final installment in the sequel trilogy or so we thought.

A new report indicated that Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy has given the green light todevelop a newStar Warstrilogy, which isdescribed as episodes 10 to 12 of the overarching narrative that has been unfolding on the big screen for over four decades. However, the existence of such a project hints at Lucasfilm’s creative bankruptcy. Here is what you need to know about the proposed newStar Warstrilogy.
A NewStar WarsTrilogy in the Skywalker Saga is Reportedly in Development at Lucasfilm
In 2019,The Rise of the Skywalkerwas promised as the final installment in the sequel trilogy and the Skywalker saga. However, almost five years later, a report fromDeadlinerevealed the existence of a new trilogy in the space opera franchise that was launched byGeorge Lucas.
The report states that the upcoming installments are described as episodes 10 to 12, with the subtitles reserved for the mainline Skywalker saga films in the franchise. While the report suggests that insiders have refuted the claims of Lucasfilm planning a continuation of the Skywalker saga, the new trilogy is pretty much confirmed to be in development.

According to the report,Simon Kinberg, best known for his work in theX-Menfranchise has been hired by Lucasfilm to develop the new trilogy. Kinberg earlier served as a consultant on 2015’sThe Force Awakens, which launched the sequel trilogy and co-createdStar Wars Rebels. He is expected to write the new installments and produce them alongside Kathleen Kennedy.
Kathleen Kennedy Won’t Stop Milking Skywalker Saga Despite Previous Comments
The Skywalker saga has been the main storyline in the galaxy far, far away since its inception. Assuming that a new installment in the saga is indeed being eyed, the narrative would be almost half a century old at this point.
Moreover, returning to the saga after the underwhelming sequel trilogy could be fatal for the franchise, especially after efforts to deviate from it.

Just staying within the construct of George’s storytelling, to keep chipping away at that, I think would be wrong.
Kathleen Kennedymade the above statement (viaThe Hollywood Reporter) just a couple of years back, suggesting that the franchise was ready to move beyond the Skywalker saga and yet here we are staring at the possibility of episode 10 and beyond.

The height of Lucasfilm milking the Skywalker saga comes from the fact that none of the original characters who made fans fall in love with the storyline are canonically alive in the universe. As a result, one can only imagine how Lucasfilm plans to continue the Skywalker saga without the titular family line.

The report from Deadline indicated that Kinberg’s trilogy is separate fromthe upcoming Daisy Ridley-led film, which is expected to follow Rey, who adopted the Skywalker family name at the end of the sequel trilogy. Hence, there is truly no avenue for the saga to continue, which makes the update all the more frustrating and reeks of mindless cash-grab garbage from the studio that has already let down the franchise once.
