Mike Tyson, one of the most iconic stars of the professional boxing world, is all set to finally return to the ring. This return comes after nearly two decades of absence. He joined the profession in 1985 and competed for around twenty years until 2005 before quitting before the start of the seventh round in a close bout against journeyman Kevin McBride and announcing his retirement.

Throughout the time that he spent in the ring, Tyson never once failed to deliver as he reigned supreme as the undisputed world heavyweight champion for 3 years, from 1987 to 1990, becoming one of the greatest heavyweight champions of all time. That’s not all; he even holds the record of being the youngest boxer ever to win a heavyweight title, having won that at 20 only.

Adding to the GOAT’s legacy, the 58-year-old was notably the first heavyweight boxer to simultaneously hold the WBA, WBC, and IBF titles, all the while becoming the only heavyweight to unify them in succession as well. Over the years, the 5’10” fighting machine has even earned some appreciative monikers, likeIron Mike,Kid Dynamite, andthe Baddest Man on the Planet.

Now, he’s finally back to make his return to the ring through his fight with Jake Paul, and fans couldn’t be more excited about it all. That said, here’s a sneak peek into the reported fight purse that Tyson would be taking home (even though he insists money ain’t the thing bringing him back to the ring), along with the other boxers on the fight card with this troublesome duo.

Mike Tyson’s Fight Purse For His Match With Jake Paul

As of this writing, neither Mike Tyson nor the fight promoters have publicly revealed or confirmed what the boxer will be taking home from his fight with Jake Paul. While the previous estimates reported by the boxing industry experts listed the numbers somewhere in the range of $20 million, new reports claim that the digits just may go higher than that.

During a news conference held back in August to promote the fight, Paul was previously reported to have unofficially boasted that he is set to pocket an eye-popping $40 million for his showdown against Tyson (viaNetflix). Further reports fromThe Sunreveal that Tyson would reportedly be taking home the same amount through the fight set to be exclusively broadcast through Netflix.

But, of course, there’s always room for improvement, as Paul mockingly made evident through his offer to his legendary opponent shared in a clip released in October (viaUSA Today). He offered Tyson an additional $5 million if he manages to last more than four rounds in the fight. But there’s a caveat here: If he fails, then Tyson needs to get a tattoo that reads: “I love Jake Paul.”

Since then, Tyson has even addressed this offer from Paul, taking his own cheeky dig at his opponent. In an interview withUSA Today Sports, the boxing GOAT said about Paul’s offered prize: “He should offer more. Tell him probably about $20 (million).”

Mike Tyson Insists Money Ain’t What’s Bringing Him Back to the Ring

While the fight purses are cool enough to have anyone rejoin their previously left profession, Mike Tyson has been insisting that money hasn’t been the primary motivator behind his coming back to the ring. To say the least, the real reason behind his return is his wanting to, once again, expose himself to risk. As he shared during a Cage Wars MMA event (viaUSA Today Sports):

I want to go out there and I want to expose myself to risk. Sometimes I want to see who I really am. I want to see what I’m really made out of. I want to perform in front of the world. To me, that’s all I ever knew how to do since I was 14. This fight is not going to change my life financially enough. This is just what I want to do.

That being said, the 58-year-old’s confidence and excitement at returning seems to be as strong as ever as he prepares himself for the ring. Not to mention, he already has his journey of doing so exclusively shot and broadcast through the Netflix documentary seriesCountdown: Paul vs. Tyson, which will reportedly provide “intimate access to the fighters.’’

Mike Tyson’s Initial Fight With Jake Paul Got Postponed Previously

This forthcoming fight, of course, is one of the most-anticipated ones in the history of boxing, and whileMike Tyson‘s return is one of the reasons behind this tremendous hype surrounding it, that’s not all. This is because this matchup could have taken place many months ago, had it not been postponed due to a medical emergency suffered by Tyson.

As perIn Touch, the boxer suffered a medical scare while onboard a flight in May 2024. An eyewitness confirmed to the outlet, “Mike had some kind of medical emergency on the plane and paramedics boarded.” Later, Tyson’s rep told the outlet, “Thankfully Mr. Tyson is doing great. He became nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare-up 30 minutes before landing.”

All of this had the fight being postponed as well. As perThe Sun, Netflix officially announced the postponement of the same in their statement:

“Unfortunately, Jake Paul and Mike Tyson will not face off on July 20 as planned. Tyson’s recent ulcer flare-up has limited his ability to train fully for the next few weeks. The fight will be rescheduled for a date later this year after Mike’s able to resume training with no limitations and both fighters can have equal time to prepare for this once-in-a-lifetime matchup!”

Nonetheless, the much-awaited fight is finally happening, once and for all, as the former world champion now appears on course to go head-to-head with his younger opponentJake Paulin a stadium-sized spectacle, which is being advertised by the promoters as a one-of-a-kind event. That said, who else is fighting on the Paul vs. Tyson card?

Other Boxers on the Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson Card

Currently, the other names on the Paul vs. Tyson card reportedly include six other fights. Per The Sun, it would reportedly feature Katie Taylor going up against Amanda Serrano 2 for the IBF, WBA, WBC, and WBO lightweight titles, and Mario Barrios butting heads with Abel Ramos for the WBC welterweight title.

Additionally, it would see Neeraj Goyat up against Whindersson Nunes, Shadasia Green opposite Melinda Watpool, Lucas Bahdi vs. Corey Marksman, and last but none the least, Bruce Carrington taking on the competitive Dana Coolwell head-on.

The Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight will take place on Friday, July 08, 2025, at AT&T Stadium, and will be available to be streamed on Netflix.
