If there’s anything fans don’t like about their favorite television shows, it’s the waiting game for the next season.House of the Dragonis reportedly coming in around the middle of 2026. For those religiously following the series, this might no longer come as a surprise as the second season premiered two years after the first installment aired in 2022.

No one likes to wait, but the good thing that might come out of this situation is the possibility that the show’s writers would come up with a better script this time knowing how much backlash Season 2 endured during its run.
House of the DragonSeason 3 is Confirmed for 2026
TheComing To Max in 2025trailerexcited fans with what they could expect to see next year from the prestige television network. WhileGame of Thronesviewers cheered after catching a glimpse ofA Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, many were disappointed after not seeingHouse of the DragonSeason 3.
JB Perrette, CEO and President of Global Streaming at Warner Bros. Discovery, confirmed viaDeadline:

As we look even beyond that we’ll see the third season of Euphoria probably in early 2026, then we get back into House of the Dragon Season 3, so we’re now in a cadence of having at least 2 or 3 of our major tentpoles every year.
This goes in accord with the second installment’s release date, and by now, fans should have already expected the two-year wait in between seasons. The cast members have reportedly not received any scripts as of yet, hinting at the possibility that the writers are still hard at work.

The frustration is understandable as Season 2 ended on a cliffhanger and in an equally underwhelming scene. The stakes are now higher as all signs point to the third installment opening with the highly anticipated Battle of the Gullet.

Hopefully,Ryan Condaland his team will make use of this time to acknowledge the source material properly and possiblyreconnect with George RR Martin. The author had been very expressive with his disapproval of certain changes made by the show, and only with his guidance will we get a morefaithful adaptation for Season 3.
Ryan Condal on WhyHouse of the DragonInstallments Take Two Years to Make
Condal previously explained in his conversation withGold Derbywhy they take at least two years to produce a season. While it’s already given that the visual effects and set design take a lot of work and effort to make, the showrunner also wants fans to know that the scriptwriting is very tricky.

“There is a ton of invention required,” he said, referring to the lack of dialogues and important details in Martin’sFire & Bloodnovel. Condal and his writers have to come up with their own creative ways to fill in the gaps and make the story cohesive and compelling.
While they’re at it, fans will surely be expecting an improved script for Season 3.

House of the Dragonis currently available to watch on HBO.
