After the rousing success ofHorizon Zero Dawnboth commercially and critically back in 2017, it seemed obvious that developer Guerrilla Games was bound to make a sequel at some point. Now, as seen in some new job listings at the studio, it looks as though that inevitable sequel is now underway.
Guerilla recently posted fifteen new jobs on its website for a variety of different roles that it now has open at the studio. These roles include programming, art, and animation positions, just to name a few and while none of them directly mentionHorizon Zero Dawn 2by name, the descriptions of what some of the jobs would involve clearly point back to the game.
One such position for aTechnical Vegetation Artistseems to specifically seems to indicateHorizon Zero Dawn 2. “Within Guerrilla, we have four teams dedicated to creating the stunning environments ofHorizon. One team focuses on the creation of lush and stunning vegetation,” says the job posting. “We build these 3D models from scratch, so our world dressing teams can deliver our immersive world with industry-benchmark graphics.”
As you can see, this position specifically mentionsHorizon, seeming to indicate that Guerrilla is indeed working on something related to the franchise. Considering all of the post-launch content for the original game has now been out, the main thing we can infer here is that a sequel would be what’s most likely to be in development now.
Although it’s nice to know that the studio is indeed working on something related toHorizon Zero Dawnthough, it’s not surprising for a variety of reasons. In fact, earlier this year, actress Janina Gavankar, who played a character inThe Frozen WildsDLC forHZD,mentioned to a fan while live on stream that the sequel was real.
In all likelihood, the sequel toHorizon Zero Dawnis being worked on for Sony’s upcoming PlayStation 5 console. If we’re lucky, hopefully, we’ll see the return of Aloy not too long after thePS5 launches in Holiday 2020.
