After playing through a dozen or so hours of the story, you’ll eventually be given the Guide Paradox side quest. In this quest, you’ll investigate the mystery behind some secret tapes, and why they are causing poor Sheila to lose her memory. We’ll walk you through how to get the mission and find the answers to this mystery.
Prerequisites
Like most of the side quests in the game, the Guide Paradox quest can only be acquired after completing certain prerequisites. To start, you’ll need to complete the first main story arch that takes place on the Herta Space Station. After gaining access to Jarilo-VI, head back to the Herta Space Station and speak with Asta.
She’ll give you a mission to find out more about the inhabitants of the space station. To do so, you’ll have to visit a console in the Supply Zone several times. Each time you visit, the terminal shorts out, requiring you to have to come back in one real-world day to make more progress in the mission. After completing the second terminal search, Arlan will send you a message that will trigger the Guide Paradox mission.

Hunting Down The Three Tapes
To start the mission, you’ll need to speak with Esther in the Master Control Zone. She’ll ask you to find three tapes that seem to be giving anyone who watches them amnesia. You’ll find the tapes rather quickly by visiting the Supply Zone.
By viewing all three tapes, you’ll learn of the past head of the Geopolitics Department who left the space station to attempt to save her home planet from the Legion invasion. Sadly, she ended up dying in the process. After watching the third tape, you’ll be knocked unconscious and wake up in the Medical Ward shortly after.

Two Sheila Novas
Upon waking up, the doctor will explain that there was some anomaly that caused you to pass out, and she was able to clear it from your system. She then brings you over to another patient who is struggling with amnesia. This patient explains her name is Sheila, but she doesn’t remember how she got on the space station or much else of her life. She does share that she has a memory of a room with terminals everywhere, and then asks you to help her find it.
Head to the electrical room on the other end of the Supply Zone. Here, you’ll need to review all the terminals until you find a log pertaining to Sheila. As you read through it, you’ll realize that the Sheila you just met answered the questions verbatim as they appeared in the log, only she had never seen this document.

The Truth Is Revealed
After learning of the log, you head back to the Medical Ward to show Sheila and get some answers. As you arrive at the Base Zone, Joanne explains that someone has come to fix Sheila and has locked everyone else out of the Medical Ward. After forcing your way in, you’ll learn it is Gunn, the head of the Geopolitics Department.
You then squeeze the truth out of Gunn. He was actually the young researcher mentioned in the videos, and the Sheila from the past was his wife. Since he missed the chance to save her life, he made an android version of her and was attempting to fill her with the real Sheila’s memories and identity, so he would not have to be so lonely. The android Sheila was unable to adopt the memories without complication, and could potentially harm the citizens of the space station if things went awry. Since you are the investigator of the tapes, you are left with the decision of what to do with this android Sheila.

Deciding Sheila’s Fate
Knowing that this android Sheila won’t be able to fully integrate with the identity, you’ll have to decide between telling her she’s an android, wiping her memory, and starting over, or destroying her to avoid any potential harm she may cause. Sadly, regardless of which choice you make, there is no happy ending for her.
If you choose to tell her she’s an android, she’ll thank you for the truth but then later short circuit, effectively killing her. If you wipe her memory and start over, sadly she’ll just have to continue living in a loop, never really able to control her own life or escape her state of confusion. And if you kill her, well she’ll die without knowing the truth. The most humane option seems to be to tell her the truth, though there are no consequences or rewards for choosing either of the other options.

The Sheila That Lives On
After her fate is sealed, return to Esther to tell her your findings and complete the mission. After doing so, you can surprisingly find Sheila again, this time just outside of Herta’s office in the Master Control Zone.
When you speak with her, she won’t remember you or what happened. And after further inspection, you’ll learn she is a completely new model. Upon finishing the conversation with her, you’ll gain an accomplishment and be awarded five Stellar Jades.
