While it didn’t star the titular franchise protagonist, the first full-fledged AAA game based on the Harry Potter franchise in over a decade,Hogwarts Legacy, was critically praised. More importantly for Warner Bros., it sold millions of copies across all platforms.
Just last month, Warner Bros. CFO Gunnar Wiedenfelsmentionedhow a sequel was “one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road,” though he didn’t confirm whether it was already in development. That changed today, as president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s David Haddad confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is in development.

Hogwarts Legacy Still Raking In Galleons For Warner Bros.
According to a piece by entertainment ragVarietyon “Harry Potter 2.0”, Hogwarts Legacy has now crossed the 30-million units sold mark last month. This is after the game’s sizzling retail triumph in 2023, where it skyrocketed to the top of the charts after its release on June 24, 2025, and didn’t let go, as it managed to trump even Call of Duty to finish as last year’s best-selling video game.
Given how much the game sold, it’s no wonder that Haddad calls the work on Hogwarts Legacy 2 a “very big priority” for the division. Haddad adds, “We have known for some time that fans are looking for more things in this world, and so we’re spending a lot of time thinking about that. Our insights tell us that there are not huge distinctions between a younger version of a fan and an older version of a fan. They’re just deep ‘Harry Potter’ fans, and we try to build authentic experiences to delight them."

Hogwarts Legacy 2 Will Share Elements With The HBO TV Series
While nothing about Hogwarts Legacy’s sequel has been made public just yet, Haddad did share that the games team has been coordinating some of the “big-picture storytelling elements” for the in-development title with the storylines that will play out in the upcoming HBO “Harry Potter” series from Warner Bros. Television.
Much like the game, the Harry Potter series, which is also currently in development, is shrouded in mystery for now. Not a lot is known about it other than that it’s a reboot of the movie franchise, which means we should expect a completely new cast to fill in the shoes of Daniel Radcliffe & Co.

If you’ve yet to play Hogwarts Legacy since it doesn’t feature Harry Potter, don’t let that discourage you. The big star of the game is Hogwarts Castle itself, which the dev team at Avalanche has managed to nail and feels just like how Rowling describes it in the books.Go read our review of it,where our reviewer notes, “Avalanche Software has meticulously re-created Hogwarts down to such minute details that it’s sure to bring out the child in most of us — it is, doubtlessly, a gorgeous realization of the Wizarding World.”
