Sony’s Plans to AcquireElden RingDeveloper Might Not Materialize
A few weeks ago, rumors started floating around that Sony was looking to purchase Kadokawa, the parent company for theElden Ringcreator. Sony already has a 2% stake in Kadokawa and a 14% in FromSoftware.
Since the rumors started, players have been speculating about the impact of this takeover on the industry, as Kadokawa owns other major studios such as Pike Chunsoft and RPG Studios as well.

More recent reports stated that Kadokawa would only go ahead with the deal if Sony went for a complete buyout, including all the anime and gaming properties. However, this might prove to be too troublesome for the PlayStation maker.
According tosources, the total cost of purchasing Kadokawa’s properties would end up being more than 640 billion yen ($4.3 billion). That price is way too high for Sony’s liking as it has already made quite a few investments in recent years, such as a buyout of Bungie.
There’s also the chance that if Sony attempts to buy Kadokawa, it could lead to an outright bidding war, which could shoot up the prices even further. Only time will tell us how this acquisition plays out, as even industry experts are busy speculating on the impact Sony’s takeover of Kadokawa would have on anime, television, and gaming.
