Hideo Kojima and Hidetaka Miyazaki are two of the most iconic video game creators that our generation has witnessed. Not only do their works speak for themselves, but they have also left a legacy that is going to be remembered and cherished for years to come.

The gaming world is dynamic and evolving. As game creators the world that stands in front of them is endless opportunities and knows no bounds. However, these creators make sure to speak to their gamers through their work. They manage to touch on a rang of possibilities while still maintaining their uniqueness.
But given the dynamic world, it is also obvious for creators to have their unique vision for the games they create, after all these are not ordinary minds. These are minds that can tap into the impossible. BothKojimaand Miyazaki have in individual interactions expressed their visions for their work. And unsurprisingly, they tend to be poles apart.

Hideo Kojima’s vision
During aninterview with Gamespot, Kojima, the legendary creator of Metal Gear, was asked what kind of game he prefers making. He was asked if he is more interested in making a game with a really strong narrative, or really strong gameplay, to which he said,
“Both, because people expect both from me. I want to do something that gives a lot of freedom and interactivity. Like I did in the past, I want to make something that has a very strong, dramatic story. That’s what people want from me and that’s what I want to do. It would be so much easier if I could give priority to one or the other, but people expect both from me. At this point, it would be easier to make a linear game, but that’s not…”

Talking about his then-newly formed company ‘Kojima’ he says,
“It’s risky, because we’re just starting up, so it probably would be better to go with something smaller-scale, maybe linear”

However, he also adds how Sony supported him to make a big game that would be edgy with a strong story and could give the players a lot of freedom.
Hidetaka Miyazaki thinks otherwise
On the other hand, FromSoftware’s iconic creator Hidetaka Miyazaki had opposing views. During aninterview with GamesRadarhe revealed that wants to make more games as big as Elden Ring. He says, “If I am allowed, I want to try.”
Over several interviews and interactions,Miyazakihas been clear that he only wants to make good games. He is not concerned if his creations such as Dark Souls or Elden Ring end up being adapted into live-action movies or shows. He even went on to say that he has never cared enough about such things.

The only thing he is concerned about is making good games, which fans enjoy. Miyazaki’s statement reveals how he wouldn’t be as affected if his creations went on to reach new heights. He claimed that he would still focus on making good games, irrespective of the success of his creations.
