Hailed as the ultimate cooperative shooting experience, its players love nothing more than fighting for freedom as part of a union while taking down monsters. However, not everyone is feeling its “positive” vibe.
As with all online multiplayer, chatting with your teammates is a great way to build bonds and communicate directions, but when it goes from enjoyment to weird, that’s when the fun stops, as one female Helldivers 2 player found out when she decided to speak on her mic to the rest of the squad.

Taking her concerns to Reddit, which isn’t always the best idea but there we have it, Helldivers 2 playerSquishyghighlighted in a post that she hadn’t been made to feel like part of the “team spirit” Arrowhead’s shooter is most famous for. In the post, she expressed disappointment towards the “young, male Helldivers” community because when she spoke on her mic during game missions, some male players were shocked at the fact there was a girl on their team.
Squishyg also said that even though she welcomed a hug as her character after winning a mission, things could tend to get a bit weird. “A hug is lovely after a mission, but cool it on shouting, “I just hugged a girl!”, to the rest of the squad.” She ended her post by saying “In the name of Roberta Williams, be cool.” Unfortunately, due to many inappropriate comments that won’t take a genius to work out what was previously said, the post has since been locked.
It’s certainly not a new dilemma that women face when hopping into a competitive multiplayer chat with it turning into the worst discussion ever. Many women feel pushed out of these spaces due to toxic “male entitlement” that has been around even before the originalCall of Dutylobbies, but Squishyg has one message for these misogynist players and that’s “Female Patriots exist”, so either get used to it or play another game that suits their emotional little virgin souls.
