Well, aHelldivers 2player may have a suggestion that could improve this by adding some healthy competition. Think of this like a ranked mode, but no one is trying to compete with one another. Not until all hell (or Helldivers) breaks loose anyway.
Squad-Scoring Could Build Healthy Competition in Helldivers 2
According to user oklenovo onReddithas an interesting suggestion that could improve the game’s quality-of-life drastically. They’ve brainstormed an idea that could make things a bit competitive, but give players a great motivational boost.
The idea is to have squads keep personal scores. For every objective and mission that’s completed, and every part of the galaxy that’s liberated from a certain enemy type, the squad will climb higher on the leaderboards.
Based on oklenovo’s suggestions, every squad member will earn 6 points upon the completion of a successful mission. Since the game anyway showcases the scores of the top 100 Helldivers in the game at any given moment, this will be additional information that adds to these stats.

The only negative side to this idea could lie in the underlying fact that multiplayer games can quickly turn toxic whenever there’s any sense of competition whether or not it comes with good intentions. In the case ofHelldivers 2, things are already a bit stressful and hectic when completing objectives is involved.
The Untapped Potential of Squad Points
Arrowhead may have considered this idea before, and there’s a chance we may see gameplay changes that affect how a sense of competition works in the game. However, beyond the casual gameplay ofHelldivers 2that’s welcoming to anyone who’s been a fan of third-person shooters, there’s also the potential for competitive play.

The game isn’t competitive at its core, but when Helldivers get divided into squads (which in turn could lead to larger factions), we can see a greater potential for for the game’s narrative. This can lead to competition for better weapons, cosmetics, seasonal content updates, and more. Helldivers 2 has already figured outhow to be the ideal live-service game. Maybe now could be the time to brave larger territories.
