Arrowhead Game Studios’ co-op title,Helldivers 2, pits players against the forces of evil in a galactic battle as they attempt to deliver democracy on Super Earth. Players are going head-to-head against Terminids and Automatons, but sometimes there are just too many to defeat.

Terminids in Helldivers 2 are able to smell players.

Players also attempt to use stealth as a strategy to get past a location that’s full of Terminids, but they are somehow still detected by these aliens. The CEO of Arrowhead Studios has revealed the reason behind it, and as much as it’s creepy, it’s also innovative.

Terminids in Helldivers 2 Have the Ability to Smell Players

Arrowhead Game Studios CEO and game director Johan Pilestedt has been very active on social media since the launch ofHelldivers 2and has been interacting with the community and discussing the game.

Pilestedt recently joined streamerOperatorDrewskyduring a play session and revealed some very interesting and new details about the alien bugs. He was asked ifHelldivers 2could be played like a stealth title, especially for players playing solo.

He revealed that to make the game more challenging for players, an interesting feature has been added to the bugs. Pilestedt said that it is surely an option for players to play stealth if they want to avoid bug patrols. He said:

It’s not really that we have stealth gameplay; it’s just that everything just has to make sense, like all the enemies, they have hearing, sight.

He further added:

They also have an approximation of smell within a close radius. If you’re in proximity of some of the units that are very sensory aware, like the Stalker, they will detect you no matter if they can see you.

This means that no matter how well the players are hiding or slowly trying to get past them, the Terminids can find them. This is an interesting but also terrifying detail for players who just want to get past them and don’t want to engage in combat. However, stealth is still possible if players can manage to stay away from the alien bugs so they can’t hear or smell them.

Terminids Have Been a Tough but Important Enemy in Helldivers 2

Terminids inHelldivers 2are bug-like aliens that are quite powerful. But they are also important as they have oil reserves that can be used by players after the bugs decompose.

Players usually find it hard to defeat the Terminids, and some players even feel that they are overpowered and don’t have weak spots. The recent update has made the game more balanced, but it is also scary to know that these bugs can smell and spot players.

The Terminids, such as Stalkers, chargers, and bile titans, are some of the hardest ones to fight against, and their smelling ability will only make it more challenging for players to dispose of them.
