Arrowhead is walking away from one feature intentionally since it is too ambitious to incorporate inHelldivers 2as of now. The developer understands the technological and financial limitations surrounding it.
Players have been requesting the developers to increase the number of players from 4 to 8 since most of them feel that their friend circle has become too large to play together with everyone. However, as easy as it may sound, it is a very difficult thing to incorporate, especially in a live-service game likeHelldivers 2.
Helldivers 2 is going to stick with a 4-player composition as of now
There is no chance that Arrowhead is going to incorporate this change anytime soon since it requires a lot of effort and time to do so efficiently. Introducing an 8-player co-op means givingHelldivers 2a complete overhaul, which would need a significant amount of time and effort to execute, and it is unlikely to happen anytime soon.
The biggest reason why players are requesting the developer to do so is largely to enable them to play with all of their friends together.Helldivers 2has seen a massive spike in its player community, which is also a huge contributor to this thought process of the players.

However,Helldivers 2is different in its structure from some of the other MMOs that do feature a high-player co-op activity, includingDestiny 2, which is why it would not be feasible to think about increasing the number of players to 8 at the moment.

I’ve answered this a couple of times, but no. The engine, network archotecture, UI, performance and difficulty can’t cope. We need to do significant investment for 8p coop to work.

Helldivers 2is known for taking player suggestions into consideration,which is also a huge contributor to its success; however, it might not be too easy for the developer to do the same this time around.

If the developers were to include an 8-player comp, then it would take a long time to achieve. It would require them to restructure the game entirely and include new game modes that cater specifically to a larger team.

Players are excited to see what surprises the future might hold for them.Helldivers 2is bound to come up with a lot of updates in the future, and it might just end up incorporating a larger co-op team sometime in the long run.
