Although it’s too soon to decide which title is the greatest game of 2024,Helldivers 2has cemented its name in the conversation as the looter shooter from Arrowhead seems to have taken over the gaming landscape since its release a few days ago. It’s not the only live-service multiplayer co-op game that was launched in February, though, as Rocksteady’sSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguesaw the light of day at the beginning of the month.
However, there’s one difference between the two otherwise similar titles: players are actually having a lot of fun with one of them.
Friendly Fire in Helldivers 2 Is Resulting in Some Hilarious Footage
WithHelldivers 2,Arrowhead Game Studiosrevamped the top-down shooter style of the original 2015 title and converted it into an action-packed third-person spectacle, resulting in a massive number of players joining the battles. In fact, the game managed to attract so many people that the developer wasn’t even expecting it to be received this well, which started causing issues with its servers and matchmaking due to an excessive influx of gamers.
However, that’s not stopping theHelldiverssequel from reigning on top of the Steam charts and proving to be a wonderful time for players, unlike another live-service title that was recently released.

A standout feature inHelldivers 2is that friendly fire is always on, which is proving to be the source of hilarious footage from within the game’s battles. One player took to X andshareda similar instance, where they were in the midst of an intense firefight and trying to complete their objective along with their team members.
That is, until one team member ran past the player and got caught in the crossfire, causing the X user to name theHelldiverssequel their “game of the year so far.”

Helldivers 2has created a community that not many modern live-service multiplayer games are able to do, especially not Rocksteady’sKill the Justice League, which is often considered to be the worst thing to come out of the studio’s Arkhamverse portfolio.

Arrowhead Game Studios has brought back the concept of players all across the globe coming together to take on monsters during explosive battles, and it has ultimately given rise to an otherwise lost joy that does not usually come with the genre these days.
Under the aforementioned post on X, other gamers have commented and reported on similar instances of friendly fire in the title, with one stating that “the exact same thing happened” to them and their friend.
It may only be February, but if theHelldiverssequel keeps this momentum going, it could surely make its way into many players’ “game of the year” lists.
