Hell’s Paradise is the latest sensation in the anime community, which debuted with its very first episode earlier this month. Only two episodes of the series have been released now, and they have taken the internet by storm, and now, it’s time for the third episode of Hell’s Paradise.

As usual, the creators have been quite secretive about the synopsis and first look at the upcoming episode; however, given the incidents of the previous episode, we can bet that Gabimaru and all the remaining prisoners will finally reach the mysterious island for the search of the Elixir of Life.

Hell’s Paradise Episode 2 Recap

The previous episode opened with a flashback to Sagiri’s childhood. Sagiri had been inspired to follow in her father’s footsteps and learn sword fighting after witnessing him execute a convicted storyteller. The storyteller’s decapitated body did not realize it was already dead, even after finishing his tale. Fast forward to an execution, Sagiri was praised by the magistrate’s men for her performance, despite being a woman.

Though she accepted their praise, Sagiri was burdened with the weight of taking a life. Yamada Asaemon Eizen noticed her fear and reprimanded her, explaining that if she possessed doubt and fear, the condemned would suffer. Although Sagiri promised to work on this flaw, she was afraid again after beheading her next convict. She questioned how she could overcome the fear and doubt that lingered in her heart.

In the present timeline, the death row convicts who were recruited for the expedition had gathered for a briefing. The shogun Tokugawa Nariyoshi and his retainers were present during the meeting. Sagiri recognized a few of the criminals amongst the crowd and overheard Gabimaru complaining about his mask, which she denied.

The shogun explained to the convicts that if they could manage to retrieve the Elixir of Life from Shinsenkyo, they would be pardoned for their crimes. While some criminals were excited, some raised objections. Sagiri noticed a criminal named Adachi Matagoro, pleased upon learning that he could continue killing without consequence if he received a pardon. Sagiri wondered if he would be the perfect person for her to cut down without any fear or hesitation.

While the briefing was taking place, a girl named Yuzuriha recognized Gabimaru and expressed disappointment with his appearance, despite his infamous reputation. Gabimaru responded with an apology. Observing his casual behavior, Sagiri wondered if Gabimaru was as dangerous as the rumors claimed. She looked to her blade for an answer and was spooked to see Gabimaru’s bloody visage reflected on it.

The convicts were informed that they needed to reduce their numbers to a limited amount that the ship could board, along with the few Asaemon that were available. A criminal named Aza Chobei killed a man in front of him, making it clear that they needed to kill each other. As the massacre began, Gabimaru witnessed the shogun being entertained by the spectacle and criticized him internally for how pointless the bloodbath was since they would all be useless by the time the brawl ended.

As a result of arguing with the shogun, a few criminals were ordered to kill Gabimaru in exchange for boarding the ship. Gabimaru tried to talk things out with the prisoners, but they were reluctant to hear him out. This left Gabimaru with no choice but to massacre those criminals, leaving everyone surprised. The episode ended with the remaining prisoners boarding the ship and leaving for the island to find the Elixir of Life,
