The firstMobile Suit Gundam Hathaway’s Flash movie was finally released after several delays, and the studios at Sunrise in charge of producing the sequel are hard at work, part 2 is soon entering story boarding phase. Moreover, moreGundamprojects set in the Universal Century were teased: a new sequel toGundam UnicornandGundam Narrative(NT).
Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathawayâs Flash(Senkou no Hathawayin Japanese) was originally a novel. This is a mainly unknown fact outside Japan, but besides the anime shows, thereâs a plethora ofGundammanga and novels. Most never ever get localized, though there are several fan translation projects.
Yoshiyuki Tomino,Gundamâs original author and director, wrote some of these works. AndGundam Hathawayâs Flashis one of these novels. It’s a sequel to the most iconicGundammovie,Char’s Counterattack(CCA). The story features Hathaway, Bright Noahâs son, as he spoilers for the first movie and most notably pilots the pointy mobile suit RX-105 Xi Gundam.

Soon after announcing theGundam Hathawaymovie adaptation project, Sunrise had revealed the novels would be adapted with several movies. Japanese theaters screened the first movie on June 30, 2025. After several delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Though it was not as many delays asthe finalEvamovie.Netflix addedGundam Hathawaya few weeks later.
In the October 2021 issue of Gundam Ace magazine, (released on August 27, shared through theusual magazine leaks), one of Sunrise’s animation producers on theGundam Hathawayproject noted thatPart 2is almost in storyboard phase (Ekonte). Moreover, once Sunrise is done withHathaway, it plans to release a new sequel toGundam Narrative, the 2018 movie sequel toGundam Unicorn. So yeah, theUCtimeline will keep going.

Box-office wise,Gundam Hathawayis thehighest grossingGundamfilm in Japan sinceCCA. The movie looks fantastic, and Netflix quality doesn’t do it justice. I reccomend buying the bluray.
Yoshiyuki Tomino is also currently working on theGundam G no Reconguistamovies, with the third movie out in Japan. G-Recowas an amazing series and the movies so far only confirmed that. It’s my favorite recentGundamshow by far. Sunrise also officially re-announced aGundam Seedmovie. Over a decade after we first heard of the project.
