Game studios enjoy making multiple endings to reward players for playing their titles. Whether it is a good versus bad scenario or a high versus low chaos type of ending split, there is no end to the number of games that have two or more endings.

Groundedalso has two separate endings. One is considered the ‘bad’ or ‘quick’ ending. The other ending is considered to be the ‘good’ or true end to the game. The issue is that there isn’t a prompt to encourage players to seek the true ending in Grounded, but there is one for the bad ending.

Getting To The Fork In The Road

Before setting off on the path to get the true ending of Grounded, players must get to the fork in the road separating the endings. Following the prompts given to the teens by Burg. L, players will traverse the large land of the backyard in their small forms. Going from outpost to outpost and one lab to another will unravel the mysteries as to why they were shrunk down in the first place. Along the way, they will meet the scientist in charge of their current predicament, Dr. Wendell Tully.

Once the teens have gotten to work with Dr. Tully and Burg. L, they will learn how to make the Embiggening Cell to place in the Mysterious Machine. Dr. Tully will meet the teens at the Mystery Machine once the cell has been made, and there they will have a conversation about hugging their families. Dr. Tully can also be heard telling Burg. L that they’ll come back for him once things settled down.

This is the fork in the road. If you follow the prompt to just hit the button on the machine, the bad ending will roll. No one will believe the teens or Dr. Tully in his Raisining form. Ominent gains popularity over the claim that Director Schmector is the one that made the shrinking technology. He steals Dr. Tully’s thunder, the teens are seen as liars, and overall there is somber knowledge that in his current form, Dr. Tully will not have much more time.

The game just naturally guides players to this particular ending. There is no side prompting or even hint of what needs to be done in order to get a better ending. In fact, many gamers were annoyed when they got the normal ending thinking that the game developers had purposefully let them down. There are many that had no idea that they could even get a different or a good ending.

Good Ending

Before pressing the button, gamers can change the course of this ending to a better one. Just make sure Dr. Tully is with you. Now, instead of being disbelieved, the teens prove their claims. Ominent goes under for being tied to the disappearances and deaths of teens. Director Schmector doesn’t get to steal credit for Dr. Tully’s inventions and work. Dr. Tully returns to himself and is no longer Raisined, which will allow him to have a long life with his family.

Gear Up For The Final Fight

Gather some armor, get your best weapons, make sure you have plenty of healing items and food, and get ready for one last fight if you want a good ending. Also, bring some building materials if you’ve never been over to this area, as building structures are needed to get around the area. Players will be facing off against a hidden boss as well as the enemies that stand in their way of getting to that boss. Once you’re properly prepared, make your way to the upper pond area of the Moldorc Highlands. There will be Tiger Mosquitos and other bugs nearby, so keep an eye on your surroundings.

Castle Moldorc Playset

Upon getting to the Moldorc Highlands, go to the Castle Moldorc Playset. Build a way up to the castle, and keep in mind the back part of the castle has the easiest area to build up to. There is a crack in the base of the castle that will drop you into the area containing the Mysterious Lab. Here, Dr. Tully will have a conversation with Burg. L before unlocking the lab for the teens. The lab cannot be unlocked without Dr. Tully around to command Burg. L to hack the systems, so make sure to bring Dr. Tully along.

The lab will have O.R.C. enemies that need to be ended before getting to the boss fight. At the end of the corridors, there is a large open room where a robot controlled by Director Schmector awaits. Fighting him is the way to go. He will have 5 different phases where his attacks will change, and he summons various O.R.C. enemies to assist him. Dodge the lasers he uses, kill the extra helpers, and bring down the evil Director Schmector once and for all.

The Data Disk

When the dust settles, and the fight is over, there will be an item that changes how the end plays out. This is the Data Disk that contains all the information needed to swing the pendulum in favor of those that trekked through the backyard for so long. It has information on Director Schmector’s plotting, a fix for Dr. Tully’s Raisining, and the overall ending of Ominent’s cruelty. Now, gamers can return to the Mysterious Machine and proceed, as usual, knowing they will get the best ending.
